I read online that Windows time sync is substantially improved: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/networking/windows-time-service/configuring-systems-for-high-accuracy

Following the instructions from Microsoft in the above article allows my Windows 10 shack computer to return results like this from time.is: "The difference from Time.is was -0.002 seconds"

Separately I do what the ntp pool folks suggest on their website https://www.ntppool.org/en/use.html and as administrator enter "w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist:"0.pool.ntp.org 1.pool.ntp.org 2.pool.ntp.org 3.pool.ntp.org"

This allows Windows to choose the best time server from multiple choices. Which is what Meinberg NTP program does with the default installation.

I expect your computer is doing pretty well simply by setting the "Windows Time" service to "automatic" so that it runs all the time, as long as it is Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Hi Jim and all...

Don't you believe it about time.is!

It MAY be .002 sec, or it may be ? Read that whatever FALSE DATA it
provides!

The problem with time.is is that at a certain point, they decided to
"monetize" it, and they added advertisements. When they did that, it
screwed up the sites purpose, and the LATENCY can really foul things up,
and GIVE YOU (sometimes) VERY INACCURATE READINGS!

I was having this issue and verified it by comparing the "zero second tone"
from WWV and time.is was off by way more than a second or even two! That's
when I stopped using or recommending it!

Save yourself the frustration and spend less than $15-20 to buy a GPS
dongle that plugs into your USB port. You'll thank yourself.

..........................................Does more than that. The google time server with Meinberg smears time so there is no stepping forward or backward. I do not think any other NTP is cable of that besides maybe the atomic clock. Guess that why WSJTX manual recommends it. Good to know that windows is improving. A look at the WSJTX waterfall kinda shows windows is not really good at it. Not hard to spot. Lotta ham software still running on older windows.

I use https://time.gov for that. No ads, just the time. Shows your drift in lower right corner.

( And apologies for typo'ing "consternation" earlier ... )
