Is Dimension 4 still good as computer Sync:If so, I need a good download link.I'm using windows 7
Any time sync that is good would be fine.I just need a good download link.
Thanks,

Bob,

I was using dimension 4 for a log time on my Win 7 machine until it quit.  Works fine on my WIN 10 laptop though.  So i downloaded and ran BKtTimeSynch and it does just as good a job.

Meinberg.

Free and it creates a true NTP daem on on the PC. It runs a drift file line a Linux or UNIX system does so it can anticipate clock drift and you get better timing accuracy than your clock chip alone can provide. Step-tick on startup too.

Set it and forget it, it just works.

Hello Bob,

The link that you need is https://download.cnet.com/Dimension-4/3000-2094_4-10039998.htm.

Link http://www.thinkman.com/dimension4/index.htm is not responding at this time.

Been running Dimension4 for over 4 years without any problems, running Windows 10 Pro.

I have used Dem4 and migrated to Meinberg. to https://www.meinbergglobal.com/english/sw/

They both work but in a little different way. With Dimension 4 it re-syncs by a schedule you can select. Meinberg provides continuous incremental adjustments to your clock a little at a time.

I had set Dem4 to update every 5 minutes as I recall. Sometimes I would miss decodes when it would update. I changed to 30 minutes so it was less noticeable but still occurred in the middle of a decode. Changing to Meinberg resolved that issue for me.

That has been quite a while ago so may not have the same impact with current decoders.

Not sure what others experience are.

On a Mac, the OS is using NTP. I am generally within .03 sec of the
various time standards when I check.

NTP really is the gold standard, available on just about any platform, and pretty much trivial to configure.

(Yes, I know that some have had issues with Meinberg NTP on Whin*, but on review, that almost always seems to be failure to read the docs and configure correctly).

No jumps, complies with a standard, and just works.

And you can run a GPS with ntp, but best not USB - the delays/jitter in the USB connection really make that a mediocre solution at best, but better than nothing.  Best is a serial attached GPS with a PPS input . . . If you want to go there . . . :-)

Meinberg NTP is better.
Just need to remember to click the pulldown box in the dialog after the installation to select your time zone.

In the WSJT-X User Guide, Chapter 3 you will find a link to a tested and known to work time sync program for Windows.
