locked Sound Card Issues #AudioIssues

Andrew Stubbs

I have an odd one:

1) I have a RigExpert external sound card / Cat device into a Yeasu FT-847 from a Windows 10 PC uidng WSJTX
2) Has been working without issue for the last 2+ years.
3) Recently WSJTX seems to forget its connected to the sound-card and when it triggers transmit no audio is produced.
4) I have checked that sleep for the USB devices is not enabled etc, all the levels are working etc as posted elsewhere.
5) Mixer looks correct, it shows that WSJTX is still connected to the SoundCard but no audio present.

To fix I have to do one of two things:

1) Toggle the sound devices to something else, hit tune, cancel and then reset to the RigExpert
2) Restart WSJTX.

It can last all day or even only a few minutes before it happens again. I have tried both the GA and RC4 versions of WSJTX.

Anyone got any thoughts - its more likely Windows being too smart for itself than WSJTX but I have reached the end of all the diagnostic tips I can find.

Thoughts ?

I recently had a weird audio problem with Windows 11 and I went to Services and disabled Waves Audio Services and Waves Audio Universal Services. This seemed to fix it. It's possible you have a similar issue.

Chris

It seems those services are related to your Dell hardware. I have a generic PC. I did get hopeful for a few seconds.

Oh ok. I know it is a Dell problem but I figured others may have the same issue. PC audio is ridiculously complicated and fragile. It is painful that we are dependent on it for ham radio applications.

Allow me to correct that . . . *WINDOWS* audio is ridiculously complicated
and fragile. More advanced platforms have no such issues . . .

I think I would change that to 'fewer' such issues ;-)
