locked OMNIRIG 1.9 ~ IC-705 Issue #Cat_RigControl

Hi...

Where can I get support for OMNIRIG..??

If I configure WSJTX to direct control IC-705 everything is fine, almost instantaneous startup

However if I use OMNIRIG to talk to IC-705/LOG4OM

There is a delay of 12/15 secs before it reads frequency and it adds a +55Hz to frequency

Any help appreciated... Many Thanks ~ Dave G8LIY

Hi Dave,

the move up to 55 Hz above the current kHz is intentional, but the VFO should be returned to the original frequency. WSJT-X does this at startup to determine the VFO resolution of the rig being controlled.

Please try setting you rig to a fatser baud rate, and adjust Omni-Rig to match. You should also try a short Omni-Rig polling interval, I believe 100 mS is the default setting.

If you reset the operating frequency again does it then work as expected?

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the information, appreciated... will try the suggestions later when home

I do remember if I go into wsjtx settings, then Test CAT / PTT all is fine, GREEN and RED, when I exit settings the VFO returns to 18.100.000

I think the IC-705 is fixed at 9600..??, there is no Baud rate settings, I can try changing in Device Manager > Commport Advanced

Somebody also suggested using the straight "IC-705" setting in Omnirig, not the "IC-705 Data"

Just a confirmation... once it starts, and frequency returns to 18.100.000 wsjtx runs correctly

Hi Dave,

I would recommend the "Data" version as that will use USB-DATA mode on the rig, using USB will require extra setup that will interfere with operation in normal voice modes.

I can't find anything in the IC-705 manuals about the baud rate for CI-V connection over the USB cable, I suspect it may employ an "auto baud rate" facility and will work at any setting you choose, you may need to power the rig off and on again to get it synchronized if you change the rate.

Changing the rate in the Windows device settings will not have any impact, that just sets default values used if an application does not set the parameters itself, and for unsolicited incoming commections.

Did some testing here with OmniRig.

With my PowerSDR setting it ends up on the 55Hz test frequency.
Here's the log for that one.

I then tried the IC706MKIIG at 19200 and a mode error occurred from OmniRig which segfaulted WSJTX...I had Data/Pkt selected.
Once I selected USB for the mode (after blowing away WSJT-X.ini so I could start WSJT-X) it came up just fine.
So at least the 706 doesn't not take long to come up.
Here's the log for the 706 good behavior where it doesn't seem to do much on startup at all like the 55Hz test.

Hi Bill & Mike

Thanks and all noted...
Will try to do some testing later and will report back

Hi Bill & Mike,

I have re-visited all radio / software settings, and changed speed to 19,200 & poll: 100ms , No Change
I also tried latest version of omnirig, 1.20 , No Change

Going to try installing everything on another PC, see what happens.

I may try a question on LOG4OM Forum
I only observed the issue since trying LOG4OM, maybe somebody else had an issue..??

What order do you start your software?

Do you have Log4OM starting WSJTX?
Try starting WSJTX before Log4OM.
