locked Log path #general

Hi Folks

Can I define the path for the log myself in WSJT-X version 2.5.4? Unfortunately I have not found anything corresponding to this.....

Why?
You can read the path with the command File-> logs directory
If you want to put it in a different location, install all of the WSJT-X in
the location you want.

There is a way with hard links, but why complicate your life?

Simple.
Go to Files and then Open Log Directory.
There are the log files (and many other things as well).

Daniel,

Currently Prop Mode does not have a value for that, but you can always use Comments box for it.

Likely, building from source may well be required to accomplish this.

I used a redirection script and put all of my logging in one folder.

Symbolic links in Linux could avoid recompiling for sure, backup the files in the current folder move them to another location where you prefer /home/k2exe/logs for example.  Then run:  ln -s /home/k2exe/.local/share/WSJT-X /home/k2exe/logs
Replace my call with your username and voila.

Myself, I build from source by default, so it's not a big deal . . .

(WSJT does, however, have one of the most convoluted, confusing, and annoying build environments I have encountered in quite some time, but I have figured out how to build *just* WSJTX without it trying to downgrade other components which are shared by other software . . .)

And I kwow where the logfile is. That is NOT the question

Pietro I2OIM was asking, WHY. Cause I have 2 Computers and they will share ONE file,

@ Pietro I2OIM

I have 2 computers which would like to access ONE data file (log). That is all.

Hi Daniel,
You should take into account that WSJT-X only amends the log file and does not read it continuously. If you want to have an up to date indication of the worked before stations in both computers, then there is no support in WSJT-X for multiple instances. WSJT-X reads the log file only at program start and manually using the Rescan ADIF Log button in the Colors window.

An external logging program that can accept logging information from multiple sources could be a working solution. I am not familiar on those.

If you want just a log file for the records, then there has been discussions how that could be done using operating system settings. I have not followed all details on that discussion.
