Locked JTsync #Timesync

Ron Schunk <ron051798@...>

I've been looking for info on JTsync...found a couple references to it and that it can be used to sync up with a station that is not exactly on correct time, but cannot find any information on a manual to make it work..I have a copy when I bring it up the stations run so fast I just can't make heads or tails of them.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The JTSync is an external program available at http://www.dxshell.com/jtsync.html. It is intended to set your computer time especially in the case, when you don't have an internet or GPS based time synchronization available. It does not do the synchronization based on a single station, but on an average of all stations.
If you see that decodes run off-screen, then most probably your computer clock is ok and you just get "too many" decodes. You may try to set in File | Settings | General display section the 'Start new period decodes at top' (don't forget to leave the window by OK button). It will present the first decodes until the Band activity window is full and then you may scroll it using your keyboard (at least PageUp and PageDown should work) or mouse (scroll roll is fine). Note that at least in older versions, V2.5.4 and older, there is a feature that stops it to behave correctly once there are too many screenfuls in memory. You need to the Erase the display at regular intervals. The decodes are there, but you need to scroll them down.

Thank you for the information, but i'm looking to use it to reset my clock
to match the occasional station who is not exactly on the correct time...I
tried to get a station last night that was .5 seconds off...I called a lot
and never got an answer back. I know it could have been just the signal but
more I suspect because of the time difference...I needed the country
too...(only 8 more for the DX100)😂 As far as my time, I use time.is to
check and then just restart the laptop. I tried Meinberg and the clock
reset built into the Windoze and the restart seems better.

1/2 second off is well within the FT8 decode window, maybe he couldn’t hear you.

As Willie told 1/2 s should not be any reason for unsuccessful attempts. Normally dT up to 2 s is fine.

If you really need to move you PC time for a QSO, then Timefudge by Mike W9MDB is your tool.

I tried Meinberg and the clock reset built into the Windoze and the restart seems better.
Well, for me Meinberg keeps my PC clock within +/- 10 ms and I don't need to do anything, less Windows restart. Of course you need to select a suitable time pool or individual servers (at least three) near you for best performance.

Thanks all for the insight! I'd considered the fact that he couldn't hear
me though I could hear him...in the overall picture that seems strange to
me..but it happens more often than I need...I'm sitting at 91 countries
for my DX100 and it's pretty frustrating...I should have put my beam back
up last fall instead of relying on a vertical... my bad...😂 I sit in SE
Indiana and can get the US. Hawaii, Europe, Canada, even Iceland, but dang,
the Far East just eludes me...has to be my radiation pattern....

Maybe improve your vertical? The far east seems hard to hit from the central USA. I have a black hole between Japan/Korea/Australia and east Africa from southeast NE. Having said that, I have 5BDXCC and am slowly closing in on Challenge 1500 mostly with a Butternut vertical over a modest radial field. It IS do-able.

If you need/want to check out your radiation pattern, either the Reverse
Beacon Network or PSKReporter, both web sites, can show it to you in near
real-time.

Don't forget to try different bands and times of day. When I first got into ham radio and, in particular, FT-8 I was amazed that 20m and 17m where mostly East-West in propagation, but 12m and 10m where mostly North-South in propagation. Of course, that changes during the day and as the sunspot cycle is progressing.

Maybe off-topic, but MultiPSK evidently has a Clock feature that can decode popular HF signals for those without an Internet connection:

Yep, my radiation pattern according to PSK on 10-40 is the US and Europe
and South America, sometimes Africa and Australia/New Zealand, but
unfortunately nothing to the Far East...I'm working on getting some radials
on the 5BTV vertical, but due to physical constraints, I can't put them to
the south because of the house... 😊
We'll see if they make any difference...I'm only 9 away from my DX100...now
if I could just get 3 recalcitrant stations to confirm.....kind of
agonizing when you make a contact and check them only to find they only do
QSL cards via another station, no Eqsl or QRZ or Clublog,,,I have one P4
contact that shows on lotw and QRZ but it won't confirm and I can't figure
out why....
