locked error scanning adif log #adiFiles

I know this has been covered many times in the past, but my problem continues. I have upgraded to the latest version, still have the error message. I have read all of the previous posts regarding fixing this. When I bring up the file in notepad, the header does not appear, just the first logging entry. How can I locate the header?

Hi
I don't have any header on the adif file, but wsjt-x reads it without any hiccup. 8000+ records is shortly shown on the info box in the bottom line left hand.
Do your wsjt_log.adi file possibly contains empty rows or a header line somewhere inside the file?
In notepad you could search for <eoh> or some contents of the proposed header above.
By the way I have in another wsjtx_log.adi file header "WSJT-X ADIF Export<eoh>".

Bill:

Are you sure you're looking at the correct file, namely wsjtx_log.adi? There's another file - wsjtx.log - in the same directory but this isn't the ADIF file that gets read by the software; my understanding is that the .log file simply records all the logging transactions rather than containing the logged QSOs themselves.

I have found that when I try to open my .adi file that I get an error
message saying that it is already in use. How do I open this file so I can
modify it when necessary?

Hi Tim,
I have not ever found that problem. Which program you are using to open it? You may try to close wsjt-x before opening the wsjtx_log.adi. If you are using Windows and that happens, perhaps you should restart Windows.

When I am in WSJT-X & try to open the wsjtx_log.adi file I get the error
message: Another instance may be running try to remove stale lock file. I
don't know how to do that. I can open the WSJT-X.log file but that won't
let me modify the .adi file.

How are trying to open the log file?
Try shutting down WSJT-X.

You have to shutdown wsjt to be able to open adi file.

Strangely, when I shut down WSJT-X & try to open the .adi file WSJT-X
launches again. I am using WSJT-X V 2.4.0. This behavior started when I
started using this version.

I just installed WSJT-X v2.5.4 and I get the same behavior. When I try to
open the .adi file without WSJT-X running the program launches and if I try
to open the .adi file it tells me that I have 2 instances running. I am
still stuck.

Perhaps Windows has associated  ".adi" file extension to WSJT-X ?

Try to shut down WSJT-X, then launch Notepad and open wsjtx_log.adi using "File => Open" dialog.

Tim,
Note that in the wsjt-x has no built-in editing capability of the wsjtx_log.adi file. You need to use a text editor such as Notepad for editing.

How are trying to open the log file?
Try shutting down WSJT-X.

This is why *in your* PC the extension .adi is managed by wsjt. Click the
file with right key and choose "Open with". You can open with Notepad and,
if you want, set the notepad as standard opening of the adi file.

Pietro,

I tried ur suggestion and opened the .adi file with notepad when WSJT-X was
not running and it worked fine. I could swear that in the past I could just
open the file from within WSJT-X while it was running but the problem is
solved now.
Thanks all for the help.
