Hi,
First time here.
I have just setup WSJT-X on a new windows 11 laptop. I had a previous version of WSJT running on a windows 10 machine.

On this setup I am able to run test CAT and Test PTT with good results. The software controls the radio changing bands on request When I re-start the software I see signal in the waterfall but it fades away. The radio is on a busy band with good signals. I'm on COM7 which I verified is the correct port. 19200 baud which matches the radio. But since I can control the radio this is working. I have tried the mode with none, usb, data/pkt

I wonder if this is an audio issue. I have the mic and speakers on USB Audio CODEC.

The gain on the left hand side is at 18 dB. I can't seem to adjust that. Is that a new feature?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Andy,

Maybe I am missing it, but I do not see what kind of radio you are using. Please remember that USB carries multiple signals. In these cases, it carries audio and data, but they are completely independent of each other. Your serial connection (COM7) deals with CAT and controlling your radio. Your audio is completely separate, even though it is on the same cable.

You will need to look at the software audio settings, which generally should be some type of USB Audio CODEC. Then you have to look at your radio settings. This will vary based on which radio you are using. For most modern radios with built in sound card (which I am assuming you have based on your comments) you should have a data or packet mode. In your settings, the audio input for those modes should be set to USB. In most radios I am familiar with, the receive audio is always present on the USB output. If you are seeing nothing on the waterfall, then I would suspect that issue is in your computer or software settings. You might go into your software settings and just try each audio input you see until something shows up on the waterfall.

Tell us what kind of radio you have and what your actual settings are. Pictures and screenshots are always a help. The more information you provide, the better we can help you.

Andy, If you have a Dell PC then do this,
The Dell XPS 17 comes with two services enabled that appear to interfere
with the audio.

I went to Services and disabled Waves Audio Services and Waves Audio
Universal Services. I then rebooted the machine and the audio input in
WSJT-X is normal.

I do not have a crappy Dell PC, the PC that I have was built from scratch
on the kitchen table and running Win 7 Pro.

This advice was posted on the WSJT-X users group.
