Locked Changing Log File Path #adiFiles

Doug Kaye (K6DRK)

Is there a way to change the path WSJT-X uses for the log file (.adi)? I would expect it to be in the Settings/Preferences, but I haven't been able to find it.

Why? If you need reach it, use a link...

Thanks, Pietro. I'll try a link. Why? Because I want to have a single log file on Dropbox to share from multiple computers.

That is difficult. A link does not work for Dropbox because if you link the
file it would link in the different computer local disk. I'm not confident
that if you link a log file resident in Dropbox to the local disk wsjt-x
will follow the link.
Good luck.

WSJT-X reads the log at programme start. Thereafter it will not check the file, only its own updates. So you wouldn't have a real time single log.

I'm sure this has been discussed in this forum before so search the archive for possible solutions for your requirement.

Thanks, Phil. In fact, the link (Mac OS) works fine. I don't run both the iMac and the Windows laptop at the same time. so I'm starting WSJT-X on each machine when the other isn't in use. I just wanted a single set of log files so my "already contacted" info worked on both. So far, so good!

A hard link works with Dropbox
mklink /h \Users\[username]\Dropbox\wsjtx_log.adi wsjtx_log.adi

Hi Mike,

For my personal interest. What happens, if two computers happen to update the wsjtx_log.adi file at the "same" time with a different information? Does the dropbox merge the added QSOs?

For Windows' user: you need a hard link, it must be created with the
(admin) command prompt. The usual link does not work.

Dropbox paper may solve that potential problem.
Dropbox synchronizes pretty fast -- OneDrive is slower than dirt so don't use that.
Your best solution is to use a real logger which will definitely solve the problem.
I'm a fan of Log4OM as it has everything need to operate DXCC hunting (e.g. beam control, propagation info, cluster spotting, email notifications).

Why not use Gridtracker to send direct to LOTW.
It can listen to multiple copies of WSJT-X so it only needs to run on one computer.
It also keeps it’s own .adi log file.

I haven’t used JTAlert but my guess is that it has similar functionality.
