I posted this to #logging and #QSO_practices because they looked the most germane.

I've gotten numerous emails asking me to clarify my QTH. It appears that at some time in the past the CTY file in WSJT (and other similar programs) had me in Hawaii. That is true but I left there over 2.5 years ago. Does WSJT automatically update the CTY file or are there a bunch of folk with really old data? I guess little attention is paid to the CN97 in my CQ or in the log entry panel.

Hi Gary

You will be surprised how many wsjt-x users are using an old version of the WSJT-X program with an outdated cty.dat. The User Guide section 11. Logging states:
"WSJT-X includes a built-in cty.dat file containing DXCC prefix information. Updated files can be downloaded from the Amateur Radio Country Files web site when required. If an updated and readable cty.dat file is present in the logs folder, it is used in preference to the built-in file."
I read it so that there is no automatic update built into the program. Operators relay on the band activity display message colors and locally added text not on the text in the message itself!

Most, if not all amateur software has an 'update' software command. Both
for the application itself, and sub associated applications. AKA cty.dat
etc.
I don't think this is the case for WSJTx?
