Locked Change call half wat through another call #transmit
Radioman ZeroZero
If I'm making a call in FT8 and I then select another station halfway through the call. Does the call stop and then restart halfway through the call with the new callsign?

Yes...but no guarantee on which decodes on the other end.Early switch means 2nd one works...late switch means 1st one works. Somewhat probabilistic me thinkst.

If I'm making a call in FT8 and I then select another station halfway through the call. Does the call stop and then restart halfway through the call with the new callsign?Hi Steve, My understanding is that the transmission continues immediately with the new message at the current bit position so that the timing of those messages is not affected. It may happen that with a switch about middle of the message may result two messages that can be decoded, if signal to noise ratio is good enough. On the message exchange point of view you may make some manual adjustment at logging time as now there are potentially two QSOs interleaving or a bit colliding. 73, Reino OH3mA |

I can see a small number of scenarios.
1. “Call first” has started to reply to someone answering your CQ and you want to override it. (within a couple of seconds) 2. You start calling CQ then see a decode you would like to contact. 3. You’ve not cleared the generated messages and think you are calling CQ when you are not. 73 Phil GM3ZZA Sent from Mail for Windows From: Roger Sent: 02 December 2022 16:38 To: main@WSJTX.groups.io Subject: Re: [WSJTX] Change call half wat through another call #transmit On 02/12/2022 15:14, Radioman ZeroZero wrote: If I'm making a call in FT8 and I then select another station halfway through the call. Or, as in what happened to me once, I accidentally double-clicked on the wrong line and started responding to another station unintentionally, caught the mistake and switched to the right station.

Mistakes happen and I don’t think that makes it anti-social. It’s just an “oooops.” Fine. Now, I have had other stations begin to call or respond to me, and then change their mind because they saw another station they wanted to work more. In the specific case I am talking about, that was intentional and in that case I would consider that not only anti-social, but downright rude. I don’t make a big deal about it…moved on...plenty of other stations to work out there... 73, Dave - N5DCH On Dec 2, 2022, at 9:52 AM, Philip Rose via groups.io <gm3zza@...> wrote: |

Sometimes when you click on a station the screen scrolls up and you end up clicking on the wrong station. This is a very strange behaviour of the program and not helpful at all. I really don't like how calls get displayed in two stages.

I really don't like how calls get displayed in two stages.Hi (Name, call?) That's by design. There are more than one decoding phase to dig all signals and some time is spent between those phases causing human detectable jumps instead of an instant filling with the last messages that fit on display. For user convenience decodes are presented to operator as soon as possible to give more time for operator reactions. If you don't like the jumping you may start decodes at the top and then manually scroll down to see rest of the decodes. Go to File | Settings | General ( Display section and select 'Start new period decodes at top'. There is a known feature that the display stays black after a certain number of decoded messages although those are written into the display memory and can be scrolled down for display. You may prevent that by erasing the Band Activity display at some intervals. Another possibility is to use JTAlert program as it can present decoded messages in many different format whatever you prefer. 73, Reino OH3mA |

He's asking about the initial call. Have you never had WSJT-X respond automatically to a station you don't want to work instead of a station from a rare QTH? 73, Jim K9YC |

If I click on a station just as the screen is changing, I may get a different station. I can either try for the new one, or quickly click Halt Tx. Not a real problem

Thanks Reino,
That solves the issue. 73 Steve M0ZEH ' Go to File | Settings | General ( Display section and select 'Start new period decodes at top'. ' |
