FWIW ... I'm not sure that the older versions with work with the updated FT8 ... that said, go to Sourceforge.net where there is the archive.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/wsjt/files/

The Kernal32.dll file is a system file.

Hi Neil and All,

I checked old mails and in end of May 2020 Bill (sk) told the v2.2.0 dropped XP support.
(see Re: [wsjt-devel] Support for XP 28 May 2020)
So the last version for XP is v2.1.1. BUT there are a lot of improvements and even non-backwards incompatible changes (at least EU VHF contest messages) made into WSJT-X and using XP may not be a good choice at all.

Well I downloaded the kernal 32 dll file but not sure where to put it. I can't get FLDIGI and WSJT-x to work. So where do i put it?

Thanks Dave NU4N

Hi Dave

Have you studied the article https://neosmart.net/wiki/kernel32-dll-not-found/ John W0ZI provided in his response ? That file belongs into C:\Windows\system32\, but I am not a windows expert to know whether you could just put it there. In any case you need to restart your PC. As said I am not taking any responsibility whatever happens. A proper replacement may require use of a repair program.

Have you found WSJT-X v2.1.1 for you XP computer. None of the later versions will work as far as I know.

Dave, You can copy/paste that file into the System folder but in
order to make it work you need to register the file that was just
pasted in the folder.
Search for how to register a .dll file that is pasted on Google.

Dave, A better link is this, http://dllsearch.net/dlls/k/kernel32-dll-file
You copy this .dll into the System32 folder, C:\Windows\System32
then register it using a command window, C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe
Right click on this .exe and select Run as Administrator.
At the command prompt copy/paste, regsvr32 kernel32.dll Then hit Enter on
the keyboard.
You may need to reboot. This site has a list of available kernel32.dll
files for all Win systems/versions,
https://www.dlldownloader.com/kernel32-dll/

Bruce N7XGR
Register the kernel32.dll file in Windows

The Regsvr32 tool is a command-line utility that can be used for
registering and un-registering OLE controls like DLL and ActiveX (OCX)
controls in the Windows operating system. If you find that some of your
Windows functions are not working properly, you may need to register your
dll files.

To register the kernel32.dll file, open a command prompt as an
administrator and type:
regsvr32 kernel32.dll

To un-register the kernel32.dll file, open a command prompt as an
administrator and type:
regsvr32 /u kernel32.dll

Dll's are usually put into windows/system32 folder or the individual apps
that need them.

make sure you reboot pc before trying fldigi and wsjt. still no guarantee
they will work, and they may not decode all modes

not sure what version you tried to install on your XP ( outdated) OS.

ok I have to ask. Why are you still on XP?

if it is a hardware issue, the PC in use can probably work well with a
Linux OS.

if it is a cost to upgrade windows, linux is free.

And WSJTX will run on linux.

Well Dan it's still a good little handy laptop. I have 2 laptops and one desktop running Windows 10. Just thought I would play ard with it. Still works great except for the missing dll file. I will get that solved. Yes I use to use UBUNTU and had windows or linux dual booted.
