Locked Computer Won't Decode #decode #windows11
Robert44
Hello everyone. I'm having trouble getting my Windows 11 PC to decode. I have just changed over from Mac computers to PCs so I'm probably making a stupid mistake but I can't find it. I'm using an Icom IC-705 and a new good quality LC laptop. I'm using the factory suggested preset settings for FT-8 on the radio. These same settings word well on my Macbook Pro.
It's strange when I use the PC because I have CAT control over the radio. When I push to green button it glows green and when I push the red transmit button it glows red and puts the radio in transmit. You can also hear the FT-8 tones coming from the radio when you turn the volume up. There is nothing in either the decode or receive windows or on the waterfall. Like I said, when I hook the Mac up it decodes and works normally so I must have something set wrong in the computer. What do you guys think??? Thanks in advance. Robert K5TPC |

Hi Robert,
From the way you are describing the issue, sounds like your codec for transmitting is correct. Check up on the codec for receiving, and make sure that is is feeding the WSJTX program, so it will decode.Sounds like you are close? ED WA6WGS |

Well, I am a Mac person so this isn’t definitive, but the #1 issue related to decoding seems to be time sync. Use time.is to get a good fix on your time and the difference from "real" time. It has to be under 2 seconds, or the signal won’t decode. Which sound card are you using? On my SignaLink I have the Tx and Rx "straight up" (50%). When you say there is nothing on the waterfall, do you mean "nothing but random noise", or "flat line"? PSKreporter.info doesn’t show you sending or receiving FT8 signals in the last 12 hours. Maybe there is an antenna problem? 73 Bob Rose robert.rose@... KN6UXD DM13ld On Oct 15, 2022, at 3:27 PM, Robert44 via groups.io <robert44henry@...> wrote: |

Thanks guys. I'll check the codec for receiving. I installed NetTime so I assume my time is correct but I'll double check that as well. The Icom 705 has a built-in sound card so I don't have to worry about that (I think). The waterfall has no signals, I think there is a bit of noise on it but I'm not sure. I'll play with these items and report back. Thanks again guys.

You said you have CAT control so you must have installed the USB drivers and the USB Codecs are installed with them. If you are hearing FT-8 signals from the radio and nothing is showing in the waterfall you either don't have a good USB Audio Codecs install or you haven't selected them in WSJT-X or your Windows sound settings are wrong, i.e., the input to WSJT-X that is supposed to be decoded, isn't getting there because you haven't set up the windows sound correctly ( I'm a mac guy so I screw this up frequently...often to the point that I just erase the hard drive and reinstall everything) or you are on LSB instead of USB on your rig. Others have pointed to your time sync. If your time sync is far off it's easy to tell, just go to the site time.is. It will tell you how far you are off. If you are off by 2 seconds or more then reset your time on your pc. If you are NOT using a USB cable then you have a completely different story and you need to say that.
