Locked New install on Win11 not working #windows11

Klaus Werner

Been through many of the Windows11 related messages but am stuck with the
new computer. My laptop seized up .

Desktop: Dell Optiplex 7010 - Radio: Yaesu FT-840 and separate cat &
interface

When trying "Test CAT" I get the "hamlib" rig timeout error. The radio
settings (listed below) are unchanged except for the COM1 port which is the
only one available. Decodes are coming through so hoping I'm halfway there.
Appreciate any pointers. Below are the radio settings.

Thanks,

Klaus G7RTI

CAT Control:

SERIAL PORT: COM1

Baud Rate: 4800

Data Bits: 8

Stop Bits: 2

Handshake: None

Force Control Lines:

DTR: -

RTS: -

PTT Method: DTR

Port: COM1

Mode: None

Split Ops: None

Test CAT = RED

Hamlib Error: Communication timeout etc.

Try this 64-bit DLL assuming you have 64-bit WSJTX.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7aejdv74nfjxr0q/libhamlib-4.dll?dl=0

If it still doesn't workPlease place this file as described belowhttps://www.dropbox.com/s/t52ngcalsgnpm8m/wsjtx_log_config.ini?dl=0
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\WSJT-X The WSJT-X_Rigcontrol.log file will be in the same location
For Linux put it in   ~/.config The WSJT-X_Rigcontrol.log file will be here: ~/.local/share/WSJT-X
For MacOS put it in /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences Restart WSJT-X and duplicate the problem.Shut down WSJT-X
Then send me the WSJT-X_RigControl.log fileMike W9MDB

Thanks Mike for your input - this didn't work and it turns out I was using the only port showing, COM1 which is for the serial connector socket, so never reached the radio.

Checking on the WIN11 device manager I noticed under "other devices" the Silicon Labs SSB>UART Bridge without a driver so downloaded the driver from https://www.silabs.com/developers/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers?tab=downloads#software and now I'm fully connected with CAT control on COM3.

WSJTX load normally, however, next issue, when trying to "tune" or "enable tx" all I can see is the interface box lighting up but radio is not transmitting. Didn't change anything on the radio side but checked connections anyway but can't where it's going wrong, could this be an audio issue? I'm sure I'll find it eventually, but pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks, Klaus, G7RTI

QUICK UPDATE: just been through all the WIN11 settings, and suddenly (?) it started to worked properly. So it seems I'm good to go. Next setting up my FT-817 with Bluetooth CAT, but first a good session on 40m.

You may want to think twice about using Bluetooth for CAT control.
There is a time lag using Bluetooth, and past history here has shown
that it causes issues with timing, auto-sequencing, etc.

Hi Neil, been using the BT CAT with 817 for a few years on and off never noticed a problem. But I’ll bear it in mind.

Just a quick and hopefully final update on this:

A day after I configured everything (thanks for your help) the computer failed totally (it was a reconditioned one).... four days after I received it! Whilst I like tinkering I'm only a reluctant techie, so broken computer returned to the supplier. Gutted really I like a PC with 10 USB ports built in.

Having had a budget laptop for five years before that I just got a new one for about $400, no choice but Win11 but setting up and config for radio was a breeze, after the practice run :-) So finally I can work a few contacts in the JARTS RTTY (no using WSJTX).

Happy me - apart from being down with the bank balance ....

Klaus,

I hear you about the bank balance. I use the same bank.

Very happy you found a work around.
