Locked hearing voice on FT8 #FT8 #txaudio
Chuck Maletich
for what it's worth;
I saw an earlier post about hearing voices on FT8: I had the same issue. i was also using grid tracker I turned off voice with alerts and it went away. so I would try that if anyone is still having that problem. 73 |

the better solution to voices would be to direct them to your computer

I've been hearing voices on 20m FT8 as well, but they are not from my machine nor in my head. Some poor other guy has their settings wrong, or is QSY to the FT8 freq when he is supposed to be somewhere else. It will pass. Even better is not to select Windows default for the wsjt-x at all, but an external sound card and no to select that to be default!

There are also older rigs that have both mic and data connector permanently connected together and you need to physically disconnect mic. 73 Reino OH3mA the better solution to voices would be to direct them to your computer speakers and not the default device |

Going one step further, I offer these suggestions:
--The built-In Sound card device of your computer:-- * Windows Sounds Playback ALWAYS goes to Speakers on the built-in sound card device. * Windows Sounds Recording ALWAYS comes from Microphone or Line In on the built-in sound card device. * The built-in device should ALWAYS be set as DEFAULT. * This is where Windows always sends its alert sounds, also where you point JTAlert or Grid Tracker prompts, and your logging program audio. ==Added USB sound card device (USCD) for numerous analog modes such as WSJT, RTTY, CW, etc == For a laptop it could be a Sabrent USB plug-in; or a full PCIA card in a desktop computer. (Yes, you can have a USCD for each USB connector. No, don't use them all at the same time, and remember which physical USB connector you first plugged them into for setup!) For WSJT using a SignaLink USB, Sounds\Playback is "to SL-USB" on the added USCD. For WSJT using a SignaLink USB, Sounds\Recording is "fm SL-USB" on the added USCD, either Line In or Microphone. * Do NOT EVER set this device as DEFAULT You don't want Windows sounds going into your radio! * Do NOT EVER set this device as DEFAULT COMM. That's what Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, Remote Desktop, and others use as the default port. * Zoom is known to arbitrarily change audio and video settings of DEFAULT COMM to whatever it wants. I highly recommend editing your added USCD device names in Device Properties so you can tell them apart Ex: "SL-USB to Xmt" and "Rcv to SL-USB" If you use multiple USCDs and radios, add a fragment of the make or model so you can tell the interfaces apart. Ex "SL-USB to Tx In TS570" and "TS570 Rcx Out to SL-USB" If your new rig has both CAT and AUDio as two ports over a single USB cable, try renaming like "CAT Tx IC7300" and "IC7300 Rx CAT" and "AUD Tx 7300" and "7300 Rx AUD" I welcome others adding to these comments so that we get more hams running USB connections without Windows sounds being transmitted over the air! -- Karl WA8NVW OH WA8NVW@... in WSJTX@groups.io |

On some radios, it is possible to have audio input from the sound card and the mike at the same time. So if you talk to yourself while running FT8, your running commentary (or cusses) can end up on the air. This happened to me once or twice with my old IC-751, and I’ve heard it happen to other stations on the air. Check your mike settings, or unplug it while running a data mode.
