Locked Logging for 2 radios & 2 computers.... #logging

JP Tucson, AZ

Ok, so just recently, I acquired a new (to me)/refurbished computer. I also got a brand new SDR radio.

So, I am trying to figure out out I can/need to integrate the radios/computers and LOGGING to a single log file to keep them accurate and straight.

Meaning, how to connect them - i.e. master/slave, etc.
How do I id them in the log as to R1-C1/R2-C2, etc.
Keep from blowing up the log files completely.

On that last, I know that I 'could' just use each independently and then manually merge the files (kind of like I do now after a contest or FD, etc.), but I am thinking there is a better solution.

I do use Grid Tracker, but I don't even use its logging capability now.

Currently, I just use the wsjtx adif file, manually upload that to QRZ, and again manually to LOTW. Simple flow, everybody's happy.

Thanks & 73
John

if both occurances are send via udp to gridtracker, they can resend to your
log ( if supported), but you log program must be running on at least one
computer..

I tried using google drive, but each computer needed to be refreshed after
contacts were logged..

I haven't tried google drive but I know OneDrive doesn't sync worth a hoot...20-30 minutes...Dropbox on the other hand syncs almost immediately and I use that on two different computer across the country.

John,

I am using N1MM+ and it’s free, integrates with WSJT-X and does network logging.

John, I use N3FJP's AC Log with the log in One Drive. Mike says it doesn't sync worth a hoot but that is not my experience. I am logging 3 rigs on 3 separate computers and it is working quite well. Even for me, and I am a bit IT challenged, it was easy to set up and use. I have my main log in HRD so every so often I export a file from AC Log and import it into HRD... Works great.

Maybe the difference with OneDrive sync is our experience was on a shared folder.  That's probably the difference.

Hi Mike,
N3FJP does have networking feature where multiple stations (pc's) can be logged to one network log file and each station sees all the logged entries. That might be the reason why it worked for him. It's not the Sync process but the network feature in N3FJP.We used that feature during the last few Field Day ops using a WiFi network with 3 stations and a server. Worked great.

I am using the DXLab Suite for all my activites (free and great support by the author and the user group), amongst others also when using a Flex 6400 with 4 active slices in WSJT-X. Every instance of WSJT-X has access to the same DXKeeper logfile, i.e. there is no need for a separate synchronizing of the ADIF-files for the different instances. I am using Dropbox to store my logfile to have a permanent backup as well as to be able to use the log file when working on a different computers.

Hi Juergen,

Just for my interest. Does all wsjt-x displays of those 4 slices have all the time an updated worked before information? Or do you need to Rescan Adif File to see what is worked in another slide?

Hi Reino,

there is no need to rescan the ADIF file. However there is no worked before information in WSJT-X, just the info if the call is needed for one of your awards you are looking for according to the real time award tracking in DXKeeper. In order to see if I have worked a station before I enable TX I double click on the call and DXKeeper displays the available information in the log. This means, by the way, that I have disabled the setting "Double Click on call enables TX". It means as well, however, that the logs for the different slices are different, the complete information is in DXKeeper.

For contest purposes I use N1MM together with WSJT-X to see if I have worked a station before or not (up to 2 slices) and do the logging not only in WSJT-X and N1MM but via the N1MM to DXLab Gateway in DXKeeper as well. This allows some redundancy for the logging and avoids the need to import the ADIF file from WSJT-X to DXKeeper after the contest to keep the log updated.

Hi Juergen,

Thanks for the explanation. It seems that you don't need an operator level worked before information as such and you request that information from DXKeeper, when needed.

Contests is another challenge as such, as there are so many different rules for points and N1MM is a good tool for that!
