Locked Worked before warning #Windows07 #WSJTX_config

Good afternoon

I can believe what I am reading cause this topic has come up before.
Hams are supposed to be a community. Helping each other has been a
tradition for over 100 years. Every contact is 2 way: there has to be
an operator on the other end.

YOU are the operator. This is not AI driven. YOU make decisions
concerning whom you work. YOU get to decide if you want to click on the
call sign of that ATNO, whether a continent, country, grid square etc.
No one is forcing you to reply to the station in EM63 you have worked
before.
If I have to choose between a new grid square or one I worked before, of
course I will go for the new one.

But ya know what? Sometimes, especially when conditions are bad, I will
see someone calling CQ. And no replies. heck, I have called CQ and
not gotten a reply.
Maybe conditions are that bad. Maybe they are having an issue with the
station and are trying to test. A minute of your life to help someone
confirm there is someone out there and their equipment is working should
not hurt you.

If it does, oh well. Just remember, the commercial world and society
at large believes ham radio is obsolete technology. The band width
should be used for more viable uses.
By some measures, 75% of all HF activity a couple years ago was on FT8.
FT8 has made the Icom 7300 probably one of the best selling radios
ever. People like FT8 because it works in poor propagation cycles. I
am hoping that as the present cycle improves, FT8 activity declines and
people find other "new" modes-like PSK31, Olivia, etc. Then in a few
years "FT8 is the new new kid on the block again".

But if you decide you never work someone on the same band twice.....what
are you going to do when you run out of unique calls to work?

If you are annoyed by the persistence of some duplicate callers, send them a 73 response by manually clicking on the Tx4 button. Not an RR73, not WKD B4, just the 73 by itself. If they are running auto-sequence that is all you need to halt their transmissions. If they continue to call, presume they are not copying your transmissions and don't send anything more directed to them. The WSJT accessory programs GridTracker and JTAlert do allow you to blacklist one ore more calls so they don't appear in the display of calling stations.

Well, there is at least one DX station that has in QRZ.com page in red block letters a direct and strong statement to work him only once. His reasoning is to give other stations opportunity to work him, hi! Without knowing that beforehand I tried to work him again, but got only B4 and he continued calling CQ.
By the way he is not on a DXpedition.

I have no problem to work again any station, although normally call the same station only when I know him or her otherwise and like to give a new report or just say hello.

I agree 100 percent.  If I'm working DX and someone calls, I'll work the
DX first. But, if one keeps calling; I'll answer regardless of it's
someone I've worked many times on the same band.  Same applies to SSB.
I'll see someone spotted on a given band that I've worked perhaps many
time before.  I'll jump in the pile and work him/her and have a brief
QSO so as to not hold up him/her calling CQ.

I logged the same station on the same band and mode 7 times.
Granted that the 1st entry could have been my CQ.
However, somewhere among the 2nd to 7th reply to my CQ qualifies as a
'B4'.

I guess the next step is a B4 software for the RTTY, PSKs and other non
voice modes?

If You're sitting CQ'ing on say FT8, and You see me replying several

Clearly reply # two and maybe more is my mistake.
Would You find me annoying, wasting Your time, that You could use for
QSO'ing other stations?
Or would You just ignore me, and grab another reply?

Good morning Bertel,

While this may not be the solution for you, I have made a change in the Highlighting Colors for my operation.

I went into WSJT-X Settings, and on the Colors tab, I un-checked the CQ in message tab and changed the background color of the "CQ in message" to be the same as the background color of the Band Activity pane in WSJT-X, which in my case is "white".

I have re-ordered the decode highlighting in the order as shown and so, now, I only have highlighted in WSJT-X the stations that I have not yet worked...

Now the only stations that are calling CQ that will be highlighted are the ones that are "*New Calls*" and "*New Calls on Band*", and prevents me, in most cases, from calling a station that I just worked.

Hope this helps at least a little bit.

I have done it. One cause on my setup is that sometimes I am quicker on
the mouse than my computer is at changing the green CQ listing to the gray
indication that the station has been worked.

It happens. Not a big deal. The extra minute to complete a duplicate
contact is really nothing in light of the hours we spend looking for that
special "new" one. Remember, it's just a hobby :-) .

Most of the time i the other station comes back and we make the
contact. no biggie. then there are times that another station will do
the same with me, call right after i have worked him. I answer back and
have now duplicate QSO's but i leave them in the log and they go up to
LoTW. I usually get confirmations on them because you never know when
the other station will only confirm one of the contacts and you don't
know which one he's going to do.

Have fun, not a big deal.

I would say the vast majority of operators do not want to re-work you.  Sometimes you'll see a B4 response....some will politely respond anyways (like me).
But getting a a logger and JTAlert to work will help keep you working ones you need and prevent B4's too.

Hi,
Try JTAlert first, get used to it, there are many options in regards to what you are inquiring about.
I have a lot of screen space, and run Gridtracker in addition to JTAlert.

Keep it simple, till you get used to one of the softwares.

The GridTracker program is a great free addition to WSJT-x and does exactly that plus much more.

In wsjtx, you can also go to the colors tab in files > settings and configure the colors to show new calls, new dxcc, etc.

Perhaps in a different colour.
Perhaps even with a configurable time span.
When reading my logs, I notice that I have a tendency to work the same station several times the same evening.
Not that it bothers *me*, but the other station must be wondering what I'm doing.
