Not sure if this will help but my wsjtx was working perfectly
B4 a windows update. The problem was under control panel and privacy it had disabled the microphone thus codec. Selected it back on and all back to normal.

I had a similar problem that took me FOREVER to run down. I discovered FINALLY it must've been a windows update that caused the computer to not recognize CODEC drivers. I reloaded the drivers and still couldn't get it to work. I went into Microsoft updates and was able to resolve the problem.

So, check and make sure the audio drivers are being recognized and check microsoft updates before running down other things too hard.

It can be frustrating when things that work suddenly don't for no apparent reason.

Hi Jim:
Another informative tip for me to explore. Just because one CODEC works, that doesn't guarantee that the other one is working. Thank you to you and all the others who have responded.

Hey Neil:

I haven't followed everything in this thread so I do apologize if I'm
repeating something that's already been said, but have you checked the
audio settings in your PC?

Getting the audio settings correct in your PC for the audio codec for the
7300 is very important. If you don't have them set up correctly you will
not get any transmit at all, & you may not see stations on the waterfall.

That said, here is how to set the audio settings in Windows:

Receive Audio

When you look at the vertical bar on the left side of the WSJT-X screen,
the recommended level is 30dB when only noise present –Red – Level is too
high & clipping may occur –Yellow – Receive audio is too low –Green = Good.

To set the Receive Audio in Windows:

Set Mic Audio Level in Windows for Appropriate Audio CODEC –Sound Control
Panel>”Recording” Tab>”Levels” Tab –Configure so Receive Audio Level is
about 30dB when no signal present.

Tx Audio –Listen via Rig’s Monitor feature – Audio should be perfectly
clean –Using a Dummy Load set rig to Max Power –Execute WSJT-X, then, in
Windows right-click on the speaker icon, then go to
Sounds>Playback>Properties>Levels –Adjust WSJT-X Pwr Slider & Windows
Playback level until the ALC on your radio just goes out - no pips on ALC
meter –Adjust Pwr Output on your rig for desired operating level and keep
an eye on your ALC –Excellent tutorial on this at:
https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/icom-73007610-digital-mode-alc-zone.608772/

Sure hope this helps.

Hello All:
Thank you for the responses to my question about failing to successfully
transmit FT8.

- Yes, USB-D has always been specified by me for FT8.
- Yes, checked with multiple antennas; all fine SWR and 100 watts output
on external meter.
- Normal voice QSOs by SSB work.
- Muchas gracias to Miguel EA4BAS for the documentation. Bypassing the
sound card is an interesting approach.
Nearly similar radio/PC settings used by me; will digest this.
- No one responded to my question about the 7300 MONI output. Will
presume radio is okay.

Thank you again and 73,

Hi Neil .... Been using the 7300 with WSJTX for over 5 yrs now. Have experienced problems similar to you on several occassions. I keep a list and here are ones that I have experienced: 1) the most common is in audio, lost CODEC, etc; 2) In Device Manager, make sure you see both Com Ports. On one occassion I lost one, probably due to an update; 3) I got a warning "An error opening the audio input device has occurred", problem was the microphone needs to be active, for some reason it wasn't. Go to Settings in "Find a setting block", type privarcy/enter. Click on privacy settings, look for microphone in left panel "allow apps to access your microphone", should be on. For some reason , this affects the digital audio in/out.

These are problems I have experienced that resulted in "Receive working fine, but no transmit". And they all happened after everything working fine, then all of a sudden , receive working fine but no transmit. All of these solutions were given to me by WA7EWC , K0KQ and several other knowledgeable follks here in the WSJTX group io. And I can't thank them enough!!

Miquel,

why are you instructing to use USB instead of USB-D ??
With 7300 on digimodes it is better to use USB-D.

Hi Neal,

On your 7300 press 'Menu' button, then choose 'Meter' on the touch-screen.
You shold see a screen similar to this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/g5kd1xo1x444dxl/20000101_000335.png?dl=0

When transmitting verify that:
1) Mode is set to "USB-D"
2) Po -meter displays some output
3) SWR does not show anyting ( or very little )
4) Io shows some reading

If all the above are OK, then you should be transmitting OK.

Antenna OK??

Very perplexing issue in attempting to transmit FT8 with an ICOM 7300.

A well performing WIN 10 PC with near current WSJT-X and Windows failed on transmit after an overnight. Receiving in WSJT-X remains fine (clock is accurate). This after four years with thousands of FT8 contacts. A Windows update may have occurred that overnight or a power blip. Problem with 7300 now is that on transmit, proper power shows on external RF meter and the distinctive FT8 warbling sound comes out of the 7300 speaker (7300 MONI setting=On)… However, no stations answer and PSKREPORTER shows no activity for the station callsign. Numerous hours have been expended in setting and resetting Windows audio, WSJT-X, and 7300 settings as described in various informative YouTube videos. Radio is always in USB-D mode. Along the way, Windows and WSJT-X have been updated. A factory reset was done on the radio. The radio, Windows, and WSJT-X get restarted frequently.

Question: Is it possible that the MONI speaker output is not an accurate representation of the actual RF output modulation? Not sure where to concentrate future efforts...

Any comments or thoughts will be appreciated. Thank you.

Make sure that you are correctly set for USB and have not somehow ended up on LSB . . .

Looks the same on the meters, etc., just doesn't work (ask me how I know . . . )
