I'm using 20.04 LTS and it was a simple as issuing a...

sudo apt upgrade  ./wsjtx_2.5.1_amd64.deb

from the directory where I downloaded the new program.

I would recommend uninstalling the old version and then installing the new version. Your settings will not be affected.

It's easy enough to uninstall so why don't you just do that first.

Having said that Ubuntu does not allow me to install a new version before uninstalling the current version.

The link by Bill, G4WJS, is certainly a valid method to update your wsjtx. Myself, I download the package from https://www.physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/wsjtx.html and use the "Gdebi Package Installer" by right clicking on the entry in the Downloads directory.

I currently run wsjt-x 2.3.0 on Ubuntu 21.10. I plan to upgrade, but can not find precise instruction on how to manage this. Do I need to remove de previous version, or is it ok to simply download and install the latest version?
