Locked Using WSJT-X with SDRs #SDR

Has anyone figured out how to interface WSJT-X with any popular SDRs, like maybe Hermes-compatible?  I have a receiver vacant on my Red Pitaya 16-bit SDR, and would be happy to spot FTx if I didn't have to commit my one-and-only HF transceiver to the job.

if it has audio outputs, or a connection to add an external, like a signalink, I see no reason why  it cou;ld not receive at least.

Pete,

There are two issues ... audio and control.

For audio, one generally needs to route audio from the SDR to
WSJTX using one of the "Virtual Audio Cable" products. Your
SDR software should have an audio output selector which would
be set to the input of a VAC while the "Soundcard Input" of
WSJTX would be set to the output of that VAC.

For control, your SDR software will need to provide a CAT interface
that emulates a "well known" transceiver - generally the TS2000 -
and provides the frequency of your "FT8 slice" as *VFO A*. Note:
if you plan to leave the receiver on one frequency/band and not
band hop, you can avoid the CAT issues (WSJTX -> Radio -> Rig:
None).

I use my SDRPlay RSPdx receiver with WSJT-X and it works well.  I implement the CAT and audio paths via free versions of VSPE and Virtual Audio Cable, respectively.  The SDR program, SDRuno, allows easy selection of the CAT and audio paths.  I imagine many similar SDR applications have the same facility. It's just a case of making a device pair within VSPE, and tweaking the monitoring capability of VAC should you want to monitor the receiver audio in the PC speaker. Just select a basic Kenwood CAT protocol in WSJT-X.

It's likely possible to do the same thing for a small SDR transceiver since the paths are bi-directional, so you could have both a beacon transmitter and receiver.

I use com0com for the control. Virtual Audio Cable gives you one cable for free. For a small donation you can get the second cable (needed for TX and RX).

My mistake I use VB-Audio. The free version of VAC cannot be used for TX as it sticks extra audio in the path. I think it’s $25 to get a “clean” version.

Did you try "SparkSDR"? Natively it connects to WSJT-X providing this program is located on its  "normal" location.
SparkSDR is capable to run several receivers and different modes. ( https://www.sparksdr.com/  )

I have used WSJT-X with HDSDR and an Icom R8600 receiver. It works well with manually set frequency and WSPR mode.
The WSJT-X receiver is set to TS590S. As mentioned above, a virtual cable and software serial link are also needed.
I could post further information if anyone is interested.

I use Flex Radio 6600 SDR with 4 instances of WSJT-X. Receiving on 4 bands and transmitting on 1 band at a time. One could receive on 4 separate modes like SSB, CW, PSK36, FT8.
