trying to get rig control to work on receive. Then I will work on
transmitting but if I can't control the rig on receive then it is
a lead pipe cinch I won't be able to control it for transmit so
that can't be the problem, at least not yet.

due to RFI issues. Try reducing power to minimum, using a diferent
aerial, or dummy load to verify if RFI is causing the problem.

The frequency is being set by the software. I am in vfo mode for all bands and have data with usb set. I am receiving great. It's only when I go to transmit on 20, 17, and 15 that it starts to transmit, but the CAT control connection is lost momentarily. One the rig stops transmitting, the control is restored.
