Hello All,

the RC1 does not start when i click the icon.
for abouth 5 or 6 seconds i see the "sand-watch" from the cursor,
after this is nothing... silence... no error.. nothing

but i can see wsjtx in the taskmanager...

i have
WIN7-prof, SP1

normaly i work with one WSJTx for HF, but when the Condx on 6m are good (some 2day), then i work
with an second WSJTx... another ports, and another rig-names - all working fine since many months.

i tested

install on C:\WSJTx = NIL
install on E:\WSJTx = NIL
startet the prg as Admin = NIL
deactivated the firewall etc = NIL

the i installed the prg on one of my other PCs (WIN7-prof-64bit SP1, only 2GB RAM, i5...

Hi Walter,

it may be starting with the window off the screen, this can happen if you last used WSJT-X with a second monitor and now do not have it. Is there an icon for WSJT-X on the taskbar?

Hi to all,

The same here with 2.2.0 RC1. Tried with two different computers and I have exactly the same behavior.
wsjtx.exe is running but no window or taskbar icon appear. Only visible in task manager.
Also tried renaming the settings directory in order to have a "fresh" install first run, with no luck.
Never used second monitor in order to have some confusion.
When I revert to 2.1.2, everything works as usual.

The computers tested are:
Desktop: Intel i3 4th gen. proc. with 8 GB ram
OS Windows 10 64bit 1909
using the integrated Intel HD graphics 4400

Laptop: Intel i3 6th gen. proc. with 4 GB ram
OS Windows 10 64bit 1909
using the integrated Intel HD graphics 520

At the desktop tried 32 bit and also 64 bit installers with no luck.
At the laptop tried only 32 bit installer.

Hi Walter and Haris,

can you try starting WSJT-X from a CMD prompt as follows:

C:\WSJT\wsjtx\bin\wsjtx

and see if any information is printed?

Hello Bill,

Tried from CMD and nothing returned
C:\WSJT\wsjtx\bin>wsjtx

C:\WSJT\wsjtx\bin>

When running from command prompt, no wsjtx.exe running in task manager. I have the cursor back immediately.
When running from the desktop icon, I have wsjtx.exe running in task manager.

Don't start here either. Running Windows 10 on a fairly new computer, have never had a problem with WSJT-x before but this version 2.2.0 RC1 does nothing, loaded ok but it does nothing after running it, screen stays blank. Have two monitors and they are both on. Any suggestions ? Have reverted to the old version for now.

Hi Glynn,

are you reporting the same symptoms as Walter and Haris, i.e. the program user interface does not appear and there is no icon on the task bar, but a wsjtx.exe process is visible in Task Manager?

Please check the Windows Event Log Application section to see if any relevant events for the wsjtx.exe process have been logged.

I wonder if this could be related to the "international" versions of MS WIN10 (or perhaps international settings for kb or display, etc.) ; as it seems like most of these folks having this issue have international callsigns.

One being the reversal of commas & periods for example.

John,

While that might sound like a good reason — I am running the “international” version of Windows 10: set for the UK, with a UK keyboard, UK date format etc. and version 2.2.0-rc1 (64 bit) is working just fine here. Both windows open as per normal.

One thing I did do for installation was to uninstall the previous version though: I did not install “over the top”; that had caused me troubles in the past.

I hope this helps identify the issue better.

Hi Bill,

Tried again but the problem remains. Nothing at all in the Windows Event Log Application, wsjt.exe no events for it.
Have tried turning off the Firewall but that has no effect, also tried running it as Administrator.
After the programme loads it asks if you want to Run it, click on Run, the little Bluish circle that spins comes up but disappears after a few seconds, the same when I click on the Desktop Icon for WSJT, little blue circle then zilch.
Frustrating.

When the decimal point in regional settings is set to "." (period) we have the not launching problem.
When the decimal point in regional settings is set to "," (comma) the program launches as it should.

The default decimal point for the Greek regional settings is the "," (comma) but another transceiver programming software forces this setting to "." (period) during the installation.
It would be very convenient to be able to work with both settings.

Haris,

no user application installer should be changing the regional setting for you PC account, that is very bad behaviour!

I agree with you Bill.
I tried uninstall and then install again this particular application (anytone 878 CPS) and this time it did not changed the decimal point setting. Maybe a previous version did this dirty job.

The good part of all this is that you developers have something in your hands now :-)

the same here:
i checked this, changed from "." to "," AND NOW......... WSJTx starts and works :-))

it takes 65.524 kb in the Taskmanager

> "The default decimal point for the Greek regional settings is the "," (comma) but another transceiver programming software forces this setting to "." (period) during the installation."

i think the same was here,

on my other PC was the "," WSJTx = startet
here on the 1st PC was the "." - WSJTx = not startet

so, that was the problem :-)
