locked ic-7300 ci-v newby

Is WSJT-X 2.1.2 supposed to control all aspects of the ci-v control or just
the frequency?. My ic-7300 only respomds to the frequency and if wsjtx is
supposed to set the mode et. al., its being ignored or not recognised by the
rig.
thanks

Hi Mike,

WSJT-X sets the minimum of rig settings needed to get on air. You can control this by options on the WSJT-X "Settigs->Radio" panel. The "Mode" options control how the rig mode is set, for an IC-7300 the "Data/PKT" option is usually right. The "Split Operating" group controls the way WSJT-X manipulates the rig's VFOs for optimal Tx signals, "Rig" is usually the best option for an IC-7300.

Hi Mike.

If you want to control more than WSJT-X does, you can use one of the options like "DXlab Suite Commander", "FLrig FLrig", or "Ham Radio Deluxe".  then you can control the radio through the chosen program.  I use DXLab Commander and have set many buttons and sliders to handle all the functions that I want to use.

K0PIR has a video on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-2iDCkWQA0&t=630s) that goes over the settings for the IC-7300 and it’s very useful. I echo what others have said in that how you set up the radio on the settings tab is important. I have tried using Ham Radio Deluxe to control the radio in WSJT-X and had problems with the radio switching into USB (rather than USB-D) mode for no apparent reason. But I am using a beta version of HRD, so that’s probably my issue. If you have HRD, it’s a good front-end generally for WSJT-X.

One thing you may want to do after watching the YouTube video is to make sure you have an SD card in your radio and then save the settings you’re using in WSJT-X on the SD card. I had a problem recently where I switched over to do some POTA responses and couldn’t get the program to work because my settings had changed for voice and I forgot to change them back. Once you get this working the way you want, save your settings on the SD card. That way you can set the radio for WSJT-X, FLDIGI, N1MM, or any other program that requires special radio settings and be certain that when you go back to it later you have the right ones.

Good luck!

Hi Mike,

If you happened to choose Omni-Rig as your library for interfacing the rig, I may be able to help you by sending an updated rig definition file that fixed some issues with the definition that comes with the release.
