Hi, I just received my FT-450D and Signalink USB adapter. I ordered it with the DATA input jack cable but see that in the WSJT config screen it will only accept the Mic connection from the signalink. The data checkbox is greyed out. Is there a reason for this? Do I have to order an additional RJ-45 cable? I'd rather not have to plug and unplug the microphone every time I want to use digital modes. I've searched the forum and can't find anyone with a similar problem. Any advice would be appreciated. I run the same setup with the 450a/t basically same radio you use the data jack back of radio. The radio should be in usb.Use the setup directions as the usb sound card that Yeasu makes I run all sound card type programs with the same setup. 73 John K5JRW

I had the same issue with FT897d. Look at my post from yesterday for the answer

Jim, NB3P Jim, the WSJT-X "Settings->Radio->Transmit Audio Source" options are greyed out for your rig because the selection of the Tx audio input for your rig is determined by the DATA mode of the rig. In USB-DATA mode the audio is taken from the rear DATA jack, in USB it is taken from the MIC jack. Some Yaesu rigs have limited Rx bandwidth in USB-DATA mode, even if the rig menu settings are adjusted for the maximum width. This is unfortunate but you can work around it with a small inconvenience. Check the WSJT-X "Settings->Radio->Mode->None", and the "Settings->Radio->Split Operating->Rig" options. WSJT-X will utilize SPLIT on your rig to optimize the transmit. All you need do is ensure your Tx VFO is in USB-DATA mode and your Rx VFO is in USB mode. This gives the correct Tx audio source while maintaining maximum Rx bandwidth. 73 Bill G4WJS.

Hi Dan,
RR, looking at the rig's manual I see
that this one is capable of the same maximum Rx bandwidth of 3000
Hz in both USB and USB-DATA modes. So there is no need in this
case to use different modes for Tx and Rx. In which case with
FT-450D I would recommend the following settings in WSJT-X:
"Settings->Radio->Mode->Data/PKT"
"Settings->Radio->Split
Operating->Rig"
This will allow WSJT-X to set the rig's
mode and also gives the most efficient T/R switching.

Bill-
I have been using fake for many years, and have made 1000's of QSOs. I have never had a problem with the power drop off at band edges, as I did with out split.
So I am wondering why split --rig is better?
And under split rig, what does VFO B get set to in relation to VFO A?
Thanks

Hi Dan,
first off, using real split or faking
it should be equivalent. Both allow WSJT-X to adjust the Tx VFO
dial frequency and audio tones for the optimal output in terms of
both power and signal quality.
Using real split mode is preferred if
it works as there is no ambiguity as to when the VFO dial
frequency is changed, it is fully controlled within the rig and
timed correctly during T/R changeovers, however the T/R changeover
is initiated. The same is no so with "Fake It" mode, in that case
the relevant CAT commands must be sent in the hope that the actual
T/R changeover happens at the right point. Various PTT methods are
used other than CAT PTT, in those cases we cannot know exactly
when the T/R changeover happens. This can cause issues, IIRC the
FT-450D was one of the rigs that caused several issues because it
refuses to accept CAT commands for a short period while T/R
switching. This was resolved by ensuring the CAT failures were
detected and retried promptly. Users using the SignaLink USB
interface particularly had issues since that device generates a
hard-wired PTT signal independently of WSJT-X.

Bill-
Thanks for the comprehensive explanation. In summary I believe you are saying that the CAT command to go split, is quicker and more reliable then changing freq of VFO A under fake.
I am going to give rig split a try, and see how it performs for me vs fake.
By the way using DXLabs Commander for rig control. Perhaps the CAT issue you describe is dependent on how you do rig control.

Good afternoon Bill ! Sorry i have been so long in getting BK to you . First off it has been quite sometime for me using the FT-450D , will base my suggestions on my memory ( god help us both ) . 1. the data port on the radio should go to the Signal Link . The connectors on the SG ( signal link ) are configured so they can only go one place . 2. the cable has to be pin to pin direct . ie pin 1 goes to pin 1, etc. This pin to pin connection is referred to as a direct cable. This is where i had my problem . I had a few cables laying around so i used them . Use your OHM meter to check this out. Let me know what you find out? 3. the setup page in WSJT is supposed to setup your CAT control . After asking for your RIG ( ft-450d it wants to know which port to use for your CAT commands . Before you answer this you have to go to your DEVICE MANAGER and look for your COM connections . The are all different you are on your own OM . The enhanced com port is the one you want to tell SET UP to use , the other COM port is the regular one and it goes over on the right side of the SET UP page . Don't remember what it is called . Getting back to the LEFT side of the SET UP page . I only remember the numbers i.e. 8 below it 2 . That should do it for the left side , now on to the right side . Select RTS ( don't know what it means but it works ). Now enter the other COM port number you found in the DEVICE MANAGER . 3.I think you want to check the USB box. 4. check NONE in the box below the USB box. 5. Now the moment of truth. Hit the Box that checks your CAT connection. It should turn GREEN. IF not go to the AUDIO tab and select CODEC for input and output . Then go back to the radio tab check the GREEN button. That is about all i can remember Bill. Hope this helps. Another check is to look at WSJT page . It should be showing you the frequency that your rig is tuned too . PS Bill the GREEN bar should stay GREEN . 73 OM DE WD6EDT Mike
