Locked Computer to radio connection YAESU 857/897
Frank Mellott
Good afternoon
I have an 857D which is set up like the 897D. Do you happen to have an antenna tuner attached? I have an LDG YT-100 and has a spare CAT port so that you can connect the tuner and CAT simultaneously. On the rear of the radio you have a DATA jack for the Signalink and the CAT/linear jack for the CAT computer cable. So yes, you can connect CAT and Signalink simultaneously. Caveat: I started with a Rigblaster plug and play. Supposedly awesome sound card, but I could not get it to work with my 857D and in my internet searches no one else could either. The Signalink definitely works and I have have made several contacts with it. With FT8 before version 1.9 CAT was recommended but not required. When I switched to 1.9 CAT was pretty much required and I could not figure out the proper settings for the 857D and Signalink to work with WSJT-X 1.9. I am half convinced I may have a bad CAT port, but even more convinced the problem is with the operator. The linear jack for the CAT is on the back closest the power cable. The one to the right as you face the back is the data jack for the Signalink. They are very similar but not the same plug. One of my winter/spring projects is to get the 857D and CAT to work. Been over a year since I messed with it. The newer FTDX1200 is much more computer/CAT friendly and I have a few hundred FT8 contacts on t. but the now 15 year or so old 857/897 family takes a little more work it seems. Frank KB3PQT |

Hi Frank, I had the same situation with my 857d and use the signaling and YT-100. My problems were with CAT control. I found if I run my HRD it fixed it. I just start HRD first and the WSJT-X. I also set HRD logging to run simultaneously.

Did you connect your computer to the YT 100? Dick DeRose KG5FNS

Yes, computer to YT-100 to 857d cat input. The other USB goes computer to signalink to 857d data input.

Ok Next step is plug the ct62 cable into the auxiliary cat port on the yt100. At this point you should have the hardware connected Are you trying to control the rig via wsjt x or is something like flrig or Hrd in between? Another poster said hrd solved his issue If you have hrd someone with more experience should be able to help If not. And especially if you use flrig give me a little time and we will get it figured out Might ask you to email me off list and we can set up a call for tomorrow afternoon I feel like you are close The 857 and 897 are good, but the ftdx 1200 likes computers so much better Frank KB3PQT On Sat, Feb 22, 2020, 1:06 PM James Mockley via Groups.Io <jmockley=me.com@groups.io> wrote:

Progress report. Not sure why this seemed so hard almost 18 months ago. Using the Yaesu 857D, Yaesu CT62 cable and Tigertronics Signalink. Plugged the CT62 into the linear port on the 857D. Plugged the Signalink into the data port on the 857D. I used FLRIG as it was already on the computer. Its a Windows 10 machine. I had issues getting the com port to appear so i downloaded the WMR driver utilty and found the radio was on port 3. In the configuration window I selected 857D,. Comport 3 4800 bit rate. The radio was on 4800 so I used that. FLRIG initialized the radio. Opened WSJT-X and configured it. Frequency showd in FLRIG. Turned power to 5 watts and transmitted into a dummy load. Pressed halt tx and it stopped. Turned off radio. Plugged the CT62 into the to computer jack on the LDG YT 100 tuner. Moved the dummy load to the tuner. Ran coax jumper from tuner to radio. Ran the LDG data cable from the radio data jack to the radio jack on the tunerl Repeated test. Passed. Using the Yaesu SCU 17 should be the same but only need 1 USB cable to the computer, not 2, as the manual says it runs CAT and audio over the USB cable. Hope this helps Frank KB3PQT ent from my Galaxy Tab A |
