Locked ICOM-7300 interface problem

Hi group, New member Bill - WF1L here in Dover, DE.  Have been trying to help a friend get his FT-8 up and running but it won't transmit (no audio). He's directly connected from his laptop to the radio with a USB cable and altho I've managed to get the transmit audio to come out on the computer speakers, I haven't been able to discover the magic handshake to enable the audio to come out thru the USB cable to the transmitter.  Receive and decoding working just fine. Driving me crazy.

Any Help out there?

Is the audio codec for the 7300 selected in the WSJT-X path for audio?
Has permission been granted for WSJT-X to use the "microphone' in Windows ?

Hi Bill,

check that the IC-7300 menu option DATA MOD is set to USB, also check the "Settings->Radio->Mode->Data/Pkt" option in WSJT-X. Use the rig's menu option USB MOD Level to set the Tx audio drive and refer to this message for details on setting the Tx levels correctly on MS Windows:

There are heaps of good vids on youtube on how to setup all sorts of radios to all sorts of computers using all sorts of different interfaces and all sort of programs
some ops focus on raspberry pi like KM4MAC and others focus on windows like bootstrap workbench
looks like you are trying to get WSJT-X working with IC7300 and Windows - try entering "windows wsjt-x ic7300" in the youtube search box

Don't forget you need to download and install the unique usb driver from the Icom site. You also need to this before connecting the usb-cable between PC and Rig. The normal windows usb driver doesn't work.

Check your Windows sound card settings and make sure that both Speakers and Microphones are set to the IC7300.

This driver is not unique, it worked for a Yaesu FT891 that has the same exact IC chip from Silicon Labs.
