Radio tabs set to Fake it or None
I suggest you use Split set as Rig. Then you won’t have to worry about where you land. The software takes care of it. It uses VFO A for RX and VFO B for TX. Just let the software handle the radio. Bob

Not releasing FT-991A from split mode
Are you by chance running any other software or running WSJT-X via another application? I've seen cases where closing an application does not release certain parameters with other radios. 73 Bob, K4TA

Interesting regarding HRD. I use a single USB cable between my radio and my computer to operate AFSK, PSK-31 and CW. Two of these are audio modes and CAT control. All at the same time too. Bob, K4TAX

I’d say you have an RFI issue. Put some common mode choke on your feed line. And maybe a ferrite bead or two on the lines at the computer. Bob, K4TAX
