Bobby/N4AU
Hi Bobby,

WSJT-X v2.4.0 on MS Windows now uses a DLL version of Hamlib, this should allow upgrades to Hamlib by substituting that DLL. Note that until recently the way the Hamlib library exported its interface was not appropriate for such substitutions, since those issues are largely resolved as of Hamlib v4.2 we are now able to ship with a DLL version of Hamlib. This should not be considered as a normal user option as there are some complex caveats, but users with specific issues with Hamlib may be able to resolve them by installing an updated Hamlib. Doing this leaves you virtually on your own with CAT issue support from the WSJT team as we cannot support many versions of Hamlib with each WSJT-X release.

Hi Dave,

looking right now I see PSK Reporter showing your station is monitoring 0 Hz, that indicates no CAT control in WSJT-X, and no attempt to set the current operating frequency. Could that be your problem?

Hi Sam, Jim and Bill

Thanks for the advice about my question.

Jim thanks for the advice but your advice was different from the solution I was thinking of.

I run multiple WSJTXs with one PC with Win 10 64bit.
Sam told me that the shared by Hamlib so I tried to finding Hamlib in WSJTX.
But Bill told me that WSJTX GA version has already PTT sharing.
Bill yes you are right, for my FT8 operation case, I run JTDX for V-pol antenna and RIG, and I run WSJTX for H-pol antenna and RIG.
WSJTX 2.4.0 rc4 version is able to it's working well.
But WSJTX 2.4.0 GA version couldn't start and it said an that error message.
It means that PTT PORT is competing with JTDX program, right?
Is this usage a violation of the rules?

Q65 and JT65 mode have two WSJTX running on my PC.
Of course in this case, I haven't error message when WSJTX started.
In my case FT8, Q65 and JT65 mode have each program of WSJTX and JTDX.
So each mode programs need to fine settings of the setting.
I am lucky that I run WSJTX 2.4.0 rc4 version for now.

Thank you

Taka, JP3EXR

Without knowing your rig and how it is connected to your PC for CAT control and your settings at Radio tab it is impossible to guess the reason. Does the Test CAT passes or is that failure a result of that test?

Quick fix ... buy a cheap $6 or $7 USB sound dongle for the laptop.  It will have separate mic and speaker connections, and this then frees up the laptop's soundcard for normal computer sounds.

Rig is a Kenwood TS-830S using the phones jack for audio out and the mike jack for audio in from laptop. I’m using VOX to trigger the rig.

WSJT-X v 2.3.1

I have used the rig with a Linux machine until recently with no problems.

Problem:
At startup with rig attached, the microphone is missing when I look in WSJT-X audio settings and the headphones show connected. The program will toggle the transmitter on but there is nothing being received because of the missing audio input to the laptop. It appears the laptop can’t find the mike unless there is audio coming into it. If I connect a mike/headphone to the jack and test it using Skype’s sound test the test works fine. Then when reconnecting inputs from rig to laptop I find the mike is now connected in the audio tab and WSJT-x works fine. I can then use FT8 for hours with now problems which indicates I am not dealing with some intermittent hardware issue. I have had to do this convoluted start-up procedure since I started using this laptop with my rig. Any suggestions as to a fix?

Re: no mike found when starting computer #AudioIssues #FT8

Most headphone/mic inputs are designed for electret mics and
look for a 1 mA current draw of the electret mic to turn on.

Try connecting a 2.2 K to 3.3 K resistor across the mic input
of the computer (in parallel with the audio coming from the
rig headphone jack). Typically one would have a 2.7K resistor
across the mic input, a 1uF to 5 uF cap in series with the audio
and a 10:1 voltage divider (27K resistor - can be 5K to 50K as
needed) to prevent over driving the computer mic input between
the cap and headphone jack.

If you can get into the sound card settings, you *might* be able
to *disable* "jack switching" in order to leave the mic input
available full time.

Hi Taka-san,

hardware PTT sharing is working for me with WSJT-X v2.4.0, the hamlib_settings.json file to configure PTT sharing is no longer needed.

The error message you are getting is indicating that another application has the serial port used for PTT open, or perhaps another instance of WSJT-X has set PTT. You can only set PTT from one application at any particular time.
