Note also that depending on how you are connected, you may need to set menu item's 33 & 34 too. That's for SSB-DATA.

Check page 33 of your manual.

Hi Greg,

Look at your tx filter settings on MENU #'s 31 (low) & 32 (high) - there is a table of all menu settings in the manual.

I would suggest 100 for low & 3000 for high.

Hi Paul,

that can happen if you try and install WSJT-X while it is running. Try the install again after a restart.

Hi Dave

I had actually came across this error message earlier today while decoding NGI on 23cms ( I usually dont bother decoding it , just listen to the audio to make sure its still working!)

My take on the error message was that my RX window in WSJT-X was too high and by simply clicking on a lower point in the waterfall window ( or putting a lower freq in the RX window) the error message disappeared.

Are you talking about the Tigertronics SignaLink-USB? Mine contains only a digital sound card and it shows up in Windows 10 as “USB Audio CODEC” for both Rx and Tx audio. If the red TX led on the SignaLink is not lighting when WSJT-X is transmitting then you are not driving the SignaLink with enough audio to trip its VOX PTT circuit.

Hi Bill and Gregg

"looks like the output device is some S/PDIF digital output from a sound card, that is not the SignaLink USB"

Not so Bill, the SignaLink has both analog and digital interface options, see attached.

However you're right in that selecting Digital Stereo Duplex (IEC958) in pavuctrl configuration tab and Output Device Port = Digital Output (S/PDIF) as Gregg has done, doesn't work. I checked it on my  SignaLink / WSJT-X setup - no audio to the SignaLink, no PTT light.

Gregg, I normally use pavuctrl Configuration tab SignaLink set to "Analogue Stereo Duplex" and Output Device Port = "Analogue Output", and WSJT-X Audio Output (and input) set to "alsa_output.usb-BurrBrown_from_Texas_Instruments_USB_AUDIO_CODEC-00.analog-stereo", see attached.   Which works fine.

Also SignalLink jumper J4 improves the PTT sensitivity and makes the WSJT-X Pwr control work over a wider range before the PTT drops out..

Cheers

Yes it does.   In fact I always click tune then halt when I change bands.  The "Tune" works fine, it just sends no audio on the first TX after that.

Maybe it's just me, but I would start with the basics...

Eliminate CAT control and get the SignaLink working properly with the Kenwood.    My TS-2000 wouldn't select the proper audio input from the SignaLink if the SignaLink wasn't controlling the PTT.

Kenwood designed it that way.    Why are you trying to fight it ?

I've been trying to receive a weak 23cm beacon over what is always a difficult path unless conditions are slightly better than normal.

I set WSJT-X up, monitored for a while, saw what looked like the JT4g tones in the correct minute that they should be transmitted and left the program to run.

When I got back the screen was full of an error message saying "1202 -20 -0.8 1593 $* *** Rx Freq is set too high for this sybmod e ***"
So, I moved the receiver frequency a bit and then got a couple of decodes from the beacon, in the Average Decodes window only, as follows

1214 -19 0.1 1603 $* GB3NGI IO65VB f7

1216 -20 0.1 1603 $* GB3NGI IO65VB f8

Then a 'Single-Decode' popped up as

1218 -18 0.1 1588 $* GB3NGI IO65VB f

I'm obviously pleased to see the beacon that I was looking for but am currious about the error message. I've never come across it and there doesn't appear to be anything in the manual. I even tried searching for 'sybmode' in case the spaces to the last "e" were not supposed to be there.

Hi Dave

I expect that the warning is there to advise folks with a normal ssb
filter that the JT4G signal is in danger of being affected by the upper
rolloff of the filter, which would attenuate the upper tone.

It looks like the threshold for that message to appear is about 1653Hz,
which would put the upper tone at about 2600Hz. If there was any
spreading due to EME Doppler, rain scatter or whatever then energy from
the upper tone would further spill over the filter characteristic.

I ALSO  like it! Sometimes I use it to see how much I am overlapping other signals. Just because WSJT-X does decode signals less than 1 Hz apart doesn't mean I shouldn't try to find a clear spin the waterfall.
