3D2CR - odd 'Fox' behaviour
#FoxAndHound
Martin G0HDB <marting0hdb@...>
3D2CR is currently QRV from Conway Reef, which is a pretty difficult DXCC entity to work from here in the UK.
I received a tip-off at approx 0730z today (Sun 19th Sept) that 3D2CR was operating as a DXpedition-mode 'Fox' on 18095kHz so I took a look and sure enough I was getting reasonable copy so I selected my FT8 'Hound' configuration and gave a call (above 1000Hz of course!). I eventually got a call from 3D2CR who gave me a report of -08; my system responded accordingly by QSY'ing my Tx cursor down onto the Fox's frequency (around 300Hz IIRC) and sending a report of R-14. I then expected to receive either an RR73 from the 3D2CR Fox or a repeat of my report but I copied neither, despite me copying other transmissions from 3D2CR. My system then QSY'ed my Tx frequency up by 300Hz and continued re-sending my report of -14 until everything timed out; at no point did the 3D2CR Fox either re-send my report of -08 or send me an RR73. I continued watching the activity and could see that the same thing was happening with many other Hound callers - the 3D2CR Fox would send an initial report to a Hound but would then fail to either re-send the report or to send an RR73 to indicate the QSO exchanges had been successfully completed. I saw the 3D2CR Fox send very few RR73s - I would guess to maybe 1 in10 Hounds. Interestingly, a few minutes after my apparent QSO with 3D2CR on 17m I managed to work them on 20m; in this QSO the sequencing worked exactly as expected both for me and for several other Hounds who I could copy sending their reports to the 3D2CR Fox - we all received an RR73 from the Fox. Can the development team suggest why the 3D2CR Fox operation on 17m didn't appear to send either a repeat of a Hound's report or the final RR73 - could the Fox's failure to send either a repeat report or an RR73 to a Hound be caused by the 17m Fox operator perhaps logging QSOs before they'd run through the complete sequence, in an attempt to maximise the QSO rate? I have installed everything, but how do i put the country name beside call and grid? Hi Guy, WSJT-X does that for you, if you mean country names presented in the Band Activity window. That information is included in the program and is based on the call prefix with exceptions. That information is also in a cty.dat file, if present in the log directory, see User Guide 11. Logging, fourth paragraph. You need to tick in Settings – General the Show DXCC, grid, and worked-before status and un-tick the Show principal prefix instead of country name 73, Reino OH3mA

Hi Mike,
I wanted to take this opportunity to report Hamlib Frequency Error in Split mode with the Yaesu FT991 transceiver.
Probably the Hamlib library has been configured for the more recent FT991A which ,from tests carried out ,seems to work regularly.
Currently, to partially allow me to operate in Split, i have temporarly configured wsjt as FT891.
Hope the library will be updated in the future.
Tnx.

I just updated the software for the radio. I do now see where the settings are preinstalled to the radio for FT8. Thanks!

FT950, SignaLink, WSJTX, DXLabs Commander.
System worked fine unit I attempted to set up for Fox/Hound. After transmitting a couple of times I had no power out. The TX light on SignaLink and Radio is on. Reset WSJTX to FT8 still no power out. I changed radio of to CW and SSB and I have full power out. |

It's not clear (to me!) just what settings you're looking for, but Yaesu released a rig firmware update: "The [PRESET] Function has been newly added to the MODE screen to quickly facilitate "FT8" operation."

Hi Dave,
OK, so your PTT is being controlled by
the SignaLink USB using its internal digital audio VOX circuit.
That means there are two possibilities for the issue of the PTT
hanging you are reporting. Firstly it may be a problem between the
SignaLink USB and the radio that is causing the PTT line to latch
up, secondly it may be due to unexpected audio going to the
soundcard in the SignaLink USB. I can be fairly certain that the
only digital audio going to the SignaLink USB is the normal FT8
(or whichever mode you are using) at the expected times, from
WSJT-X. One caveat is that no other software should be sending
audio to that soundcard, e.g. system sounds, i.e. the SignaLink
USB must not be the system default soundcard. To take the first
possibility further you may be better pursuing on a SignaLink
specific forum, or maybe one related to running AFSK digital modes
on your rig.

Bill, no CAT control. straight link via Signalink. Reason for that is that my radio is not supported by most control programs. And too many issues with the control cable that is available for my radio. 73's Dave KC3NRI On Sat, Sep 18, 2021 at 12:55 PM Bill Somerville <g4wjs@...> wrote: On 16/09/2021 21:04, medicdave220@... wrote: --

The best lightning protection I have found to date for my home station is disconnecting the transmission line and placing the end outside of the house. Also the power is disconnected from the radios and acces- sories. Trying to turn the exterior of the home into a sub microOhm shunt for Millions of Volts at hundreds of thousands of amperes is sim- ply not in my budget. That does not mean I ignore local code nor ignore good practices that are financially practical. Chuck WD4HXG On September 18, 2021 at 5:19 AM, "Jim Brown" <k9yc@...> wrote:

I have successfully used an Icom IC-781 using CI-V rig control and a SignaLink for the sound card interface. Use "USB" for "Mode" and "Fake It" for "Split Operation". 73 de KB5PGY On 9/17/2021 9:07 AM, Michael Black via

Fake It or Rig Split will solve filter problems.

hamspots.net shows you were getting out but you might just be having a bad day on 40M. Only shows local countries for you. What kind of power are you showing and what's your antenna? Also....what does your ALC show? Mike W9MDB

What exactly is your power meter doing? What makes you think it is RF instead of a setting on your radio or WSJT-x. Are you showing any power out? Fluctuating power. What is the reading of the ALC meter? SWR meter. Need more info please
