Hi Mike, have you got the 'Auto Seq' check-box on the main WSJT-X window ticked? Also, in the Settings > Reporting menu tab do you have the 'Prompt me to log QSO' option checked?

Assuming you have, what happens when you receive a report, for example R-12, from the other station - doesn't your system move on to sending your Tx_4 message of '<othercall> N3HR RRR' or '<othercall> N3HR RR73'?

Alternatively, what happens when you receive an RRR or RR73 message from the other station - doesn't your system move on to sending your Tx_5 message of '<othercall> N3HR 73'?

When your system sends either your RR73 or 73 message, the prompt to log the QSO should pop up - if you're never getting this far then it's conceivable that there's simply too much QRM (or QSB) at either your end or at the other station that's preventing the decoding of the signal report messages that are being exchanged.

It would be nice to have this fixed. It's a shame that this renders the
FT-747 unusable for latest wsjtx versions.

I install WSJT-X onto my E: drive, which is a logical partition on the same physical disk as the C: drive, and I then put all what I call the 'user data' for WSJT-X into a folder titled E:\WSJT-X\User Data. I then use the WIndows 'mklink' command to create a directory junction between the default location on the C: drive and the User Data folder; the command to do this is:

mklink /J "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\WSJT-X" "E:\WSJT-X\User Data"

This ensures that all of WSJT-X's data, including the wsjtx_log.adi log file, is stored on the E: drive but as far as WSJT-X is concerned it's still in the default location on the C: drive. Having the user data on the E: drive means that it's much less vulnerable to being lost in the event of a crash or other issue with the C: drive and it also means that the WSJT-X program plus all its user data can be backed-up from (and swiftly restored to) the E: drive without needing to take a backup of the user data from the default location on the C: drive.

Hi Kent, you don't have to respond to the first caller automatically; just untick the 'Call 1st' check box and then the selection of which of the multiple responders to your CQ to work is entirely up to you - you can work them in whatever order you choose.

The only time I find the 'Call 1st' option to be of any real value is in FT4 contests where you're primarily interested in working as many stations as possible no matter where they are, combined with the fact that FT4 QSOs run at twice the rate of FT8 QSOs so there's even less time to do a manual selection of a caller from the list of decodes - these days my brain-hand coordination times aren't fast enough for that... :-)

Also, as others have already said it's (strongly) recommended that you find what appears to be a clear spot on your waterfall, put your Tx cursor there and check the 'Hold Tx Freq' option, so that your Tx frequency doesn't always change to the frequency of the station you're calling.

I believe
1st decode is in your Rx passband.
2nd is 'fast' decode
3rd is ''Normal' decode
4th is 'Deep' decode.

I believe it’s the order it’s decoded. Usually, the first decode is the strongest on your RX frequency, then random.
