AB1J makes great points. Some kind of stacking might be helpful for both run and S/P stations.

And yeah, experience will come with time.  Compared to traditional contesting, most JT-mode ops are newbies and will ramp up in time.

I took part in the recent FT4-DX-CONTEST partly to take a look at the problem.  Some thoughts:

After that, I don't want any dead air time

I want the runner to immediately send something to someone.  It can be a 73 to me, a new CQ or a reply to a tail ending station (calling off frequency, hopefully).  It's his or her transmission frame.  Use it.

What I don't want is for the station to disappear for a while.

In the FT4 contest, the running station often disappeared for one or more cycles, so I didn't know what was happening after my QSO.  If I saw an immediate transmission, all was well.  If signals were good and there was no QRM, I assumed all was well.  Otherwise, who knows?

What I want is what happens normally with the legacy modes, CW, SSB, RTTY.  With those modes the running station doesn't disappear between QSOs or get out of the flow.  His continuous ongoing operation is confirmation that my QSO was good; otherwise he'd ask for a repeat.  He should  never go silent.  If he does, something went wrong (power failure) or he's stuck in an SO2R quagmire. (That's the reason folks hate to wait for a slow SO2R station - what happened?)

FT logging should not be done automatically.  Set WSJT-X to prompt logging, but manually click to log the contact when the QSO is satisfactorily completed.  This will prevent logging a contact prematurely or logging it multiple times (one for every RR73) when repeats happen.

There are lots of new FT contesters who don't know the legacy mode contest conventions, such as implied good QSOs if no one raises any issues during the QSO (no repeat requests) and the running station continues on his merry way.  They will need to learn the convention and realize they don't need a final 73 if some other transmission is sufficient.

Jay,

Just a thought.  Check your computer's Screen Resolution.
Mine is 1366 x 768 and I can adjust the WSJTX displays
as desired by the normal pulling method on the edges.

Ensure Windows Time Service is stopped. It will fight other NTP applications.

Bill,

Thank you for your reply. I uninstalled Dimension 4 and installed NTP. My clock is showing exact on "Time Is" as before - I don;t know enough about computers to know if all is well inside but lets say it is. Although I DID get to work VP8PJ tonite on 30 meters, I am started missing receive blocks shortly afterwords. I am now on 60 meters and am only receiving odd cycles (.15 & .45) - no even cycles. I switched back to normal mode from F/H with same effect. As I write this, VP8PJ is there on 60m. I am getting the blocks of everyone sending to them but not the blocks the VP8 would be xmting on. I don't know if I can hear them so I am not xmting.

I have been using DXLabsuite Commander for rig control. I thought that was the problem since you have to run most of the suite to use the bridge for automatic Logging. I switched back to the IC-7300 rig control and it makes no difference. I have turned JTAlert on and off with same result. Everything was working fine until I THINK mid January - I'm not sure when it started messing up but it hasn't been too long.

Again, Thank You,

But I would like it if people left some of the previous thread in their replies so it is possible to work out what on earth they are talking about with a lot more ease..

Jim,
I have been on your website and have read lots and lots of good info ...I sure I picked up some and missed some to.
There are lots of very talented folks on the radio we are very lucky you guys.

I'm not real sure just what I can say to help myself here....I am sorry and really hate to ask for help.

I have been in this radio hobby since 1982
I worked nothing but CW for 20 years
I just started to mess with the digital stuff...and my CW skills have suffered from doing so.

We are all at different levels.
I do love this stuff though and I need help from time to time.

Anyway thanks again guys...I'll try to do better next time   ;)

I used tab 2 almost exclusively back in the day when JT65 was king and there was no auto-sequence. Easy-peasy point-and-shoot. With FT auto-sequencing you need to think on your feet and solve problems, so tab 1 is better.

Fred,

Maybe I'm unusual, but when I start using something, the first thing I do is RTFM. I've spent many hundreds of hours writing tutorial material sharing what I've learned about how stuff works and posting it for free download on my website. I've also written for ARRL publications. K1JT and his team have done a great job writing the User Guide for WSJT-X. I'm sure they must find it frustrating when repeated questions are asked here by folks who haven't taken the time to read it. I also find it frustrating that folks whose study for their license was limited to memorizing answers to multiple-guess questions haven't bothered to learn the fundamentals of how radios work.

In general, when I take the time to write something, it's not aimed to any one person, but to all who take the time to read it, in this case, the subscribers to this reflector.

And that’s the problem. You’re trying to transmit 3158Hz with a filter that will more than likely will only pass 2700Hz.

Keep your transmit between 1500 and 2000 to insure it will go through the SSB filters on transmit. Someone else mentioned this earlier, by the way.

I just tried and it works!!!!!
And I tried it few more times also....and it works

Wow I wish I could just delete this whole embarrassing thread...

All I can say is thank you very much and I owe you a beer or two.

Yes I sure wish I would have read your post thoroughly.
I was so sure it was my PC audio or something like that.
I guess I'm not as good at this stuff as I once thought.

Well on the bright side I did learn some things.

Anyway Bill thanks for all your help.

Also thanks to everyone else too
