Look at the main GUI, button marked "Lookup" just above the Date and time window. From the User Guide: "The program can maintain a database of callsigns and locators for future reference. Click Add to insert the present call and locator in the database; click Lookup to retrieve the locator for a previously stored call. This feature is mainly useful for situations in which the number of active stations is modest and reasonably stable, such as EME (Earth-Moon-Earth) communication. The callsign file name is CALL3.TXT." The button might not do what you want, but "Lookup" is prominently there! Kind regards Kai, KE4PT On 3/4/2020 09:28, AG0N-3055 wrote:

Added Feature?
Barry Green
It would seem possible to add a feature to FT8 that would allow users to list a particular call they were looking for (such as a DXpedition) and have an alert sent when that call appeared in the FT8 "calling/working" list. Has anything like that been discussed? Thanks!

Perhaps the reason is they are still working on the bugs and enhancements of the primary package they have now. It’s a free program and we are at their mercy on enhancements and I am not one to get on and ask for more until they have the original package bugs worked out.

I have looked and it appears that the callsign lookup button really doesn't do anything, unless another application is also installed, like JT-alert.

Working DX - FT8 v/s FT4
Greg Chartrand
I live in the Pacific NW and propagation on all bands has been dismal for the last several years. I like working DX on any band and mode so FT8 has been a new challenge for me.
Recently I switched over to FT4 to see what is out there to work. I found that the activity level is considerably lower on the two primary bands I operate, 40 and 20 meters. My big discovery is that I have made many contacts on FT4 that most likely would no be possible with FT8. My observation is that there are very brief openings ranging from 30 seconds to 3 minutes where DX to Europe and other distant locations occur. Contacts using FT8 with these brief openings are usually not possible but FT4 works quite well. I have chased a lot of DX on 160 m using CW and am used to waiting 20 minutes for a 30 second QSB peak to occur to work a DX station. These peaks are very similar to those I have seen on 40 and 20 m and FT4 seems to be the mode that can take advantage of them. I'd expect the same to be true on 6M where sporadic E and meteor bursts provide paths of short duration's. I would like to see more DX stations to try FT4 on 40 and 20 m to see if FT4 maybe the more desirable mode for DX on some HF bands and conditions. One of the advantages of WSJT is that one can watch the waterfall to see the DX station before a decode happens so timing an attempt for a contact can be optimized. Hope to work you soon on FT4! Re: wav recordings

FWIW .. it will always create a .wav file each decode cycle to
enable any debugging, but will always erase it. HOWEVER ... if
you close the program in the middle of a decode cycle, that file
WILL NOT be deleted. That is why under the FILE menu there is a
selection to DELETE all files in the save directory. The
developers advise to use that at least once a month (or more often
if necessary) to clear out that directory. On 3/3/2020 9:20 PM, Paul W5PF wrote:

WSJTX with Softrock
Paul Coddington
Hi I am hoping someone can help.
I have been running wsjtx with various modes using the following rig
combination.
wsjtx ---> HDSDR ---> softrock The link between wsjtx uses VAC cables
for audio and CAT to HDSDR for rig control.
This combination worked fine for many years (since 2016) on a PC running W7
with many 100s of contacts.
Unfortunately having recently replaced my W7 PC with one running W10 it no
longer works.
I have traced the problem to the fact that somewhere in the chain the
allocation of the I/Q signals to the L/R audio channels gets swopped.
Now the reason for asking help from this group is that I do not see the
same problem when going from W7 to W10 with other software combinations
eg Powersdr v2.4.4, fldigi ---> quisk
I know that this is an unusual setup but I would be interested if anyone
else using a similar system has experienced problems.

That is why the wsjt-x webpage recommends you to install Meinberg NTP or equiv if you are on Windows.

It appears to be working now. I had to go in and manually erase the existing files. Then when I started WSJTX with no wav files it deletes the new file after each receive period. Should have tried that before posting. Paul W5PF On 3/3/2020 7:46 PM, Paul W5PF via

Darl, you may have found the answer, but I didn't see any response to your message. You are correct about the alternate F1 - F6 functions not being explained in the User Guide. In the WSJT-X main window, however, if you select the Help - Keyboard Shortcuts, you will find it in the parenthesis for F1 to F6. F1 = transmit Tx6 (CQ) F2 = transmit Tx2 F3 = transmit Tx3 F4 = transmit Tx4 F5 = transmit Tx5 F6 = toggle "Call 1st)
As you already know, they are activated in the Settings - General, check "Alternate F1-F6 bindings".
There is no F key for Tx1, as the software intentionally requires you to actively make the selection of which station to call, if you are not the CQ-ing station.

Hey Walter, Thanks but that is what I have done and they are still being saved. At least there is apparently a limit of 2611 files because the oldest is erased before the new one is saved. 73, Paul W5PF On 3/3/2020 5:47 PM, Walter Holmes K5WH

Re: WSJT-X is not decoding but shows signals on waterfall
Kent AA6P
Yesterday I opened WSJT-X and had the same problem with no FT8 decodes. I checked my computer clock and it was a full 4 seconds ahead!
After synchronization, everything is back to normal. I wonder if leap day on February 29 could have been a factor. Windows 10 does have an easy synchronization feature. Go to Settings, Time & Language, Synchronize Your Clock, and Sync Now.

Jim Bacher - WB8VSU
I also use Windows Defender on the computer running wsjt-x. I set it not to scan wsjt-x's audio directory.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Set your wsjt-x to save audio files. Then after awhile, like 5 minutes, you can play back the audio files in wsjt-x and see what it can read in the files verse what it saw live. Don't leave the save audio files turned on like I did, or you will run out of disk space. Although you likely did, make sure you have the latest drivers for the 7300.
