Hi Bill,

Just saw you answer another OM;

Mostly unrelated to that, behavior...

Is there a 'proper' location to set down your signal other than not on top of other tx's?

Meaning; is it more appropriate to say between the tick marks, or split them?

Or put this way... I have a large display so I set my waterfall @ 2bin which results in a display from abt 100Hz to 2600Hz - with tick marks convieniently at 50Hz spacing; therefore, I place my tx bracket - 'in the lane' between the tick marks, or 'on the 50s', if you prefer.  However; I see more than a few users that 'split the tick marks'. (On the 25s...) or as I put it, all over the road & crashing over other stations. (I suspect they drive their vehicles in the same fashion!)

I have to say that wsjt-x has an amazing ability to usually pull out & decode from the background QRM! But not always... I have lost so many important dxcc type qso's due to what can only be described as discourteousness!

Anyway, how shall we drive? Within the lanes, or all over the place? What say you (even if you drive on the wrong side of the road over there... haha...).

Really just looking for advice in order for all of us to use the same method to reduce QRM & frustrations...

Hi Joe,

the non-response to an AI; query is fine, only much later rigs support
that, Hamlib tries that query so it can restore the AI state on exit.
The AI0; command does work which is expected. The diagnostic worked as
expected, i.e. just fine, when run without hardware flow control. So far
I don't see a problem but we need to look at the response to other CAT
commands for further diagnosis.

Is this the planned behavior, or is there something I can do about this with some different option choices?
Hi OM,

you are correct that this behaviour is unhelpful, it is one of the several edge cases where we expect the operator to be alert and select the correct response. I hope you understand that we do not want to create an automated QSO machine, so we do not consider such issues to be a high priority.

Hi to all,

The same here with 2.2.0 RC1. Tried with 32 Bit version also 64 Bit and I have exactly the same behavior.
wsjtx.exe is running but no window or taskbar icon appear. Only visible in task manager. No problem at all with previous version
Any help please (win 10 64 bit)

I've noticed what I perceive as odd behavior of the Auto Seq function.  When the other station has responded with their report and I'm sending mine (Tx 3), they will sometimes temporarily go work another station as band conditions change.  As soon as they send their RR73 message to the OTHER station, my Auto Seq goes immediately back to Tx 1, essentially starting my QSO at the beginning.  If I catch this quickly, I will click Tx 3 to resume sending their report and complete the QSO.

Is this the planned behavior, or is there something I can do about this with some different option choices?

With this invocation rigctrl appears to be reporting correctly
and identifying the rig properly as a TS-440. The previous version
was not communicating with the rig.

Unfortunately, there seems to be something odd with your TS-440
- perhaps a very old version of the firmware that does not respond
to the AI; inquiry. Bill would need to answer whether that is a
critical failure.

In any case, try running WSJTX with the radio configuration set
for:

Rig: Kenwood TS-440 Poll Interval: 1s
Serial Port: COM 7 Baud Rate: 4800
Data Bits: Eight Stop Bits: Two
Handshake: None

The difference being that hardware handshaking may not be needed with
your CAT interface. Some loop RTS/CTS at the rig end to free up both
DTR and RTS for switching PTT etc.
You can check/confirm this by checking for a jumper (short) between
pins 4 and 5 of the DIN plug on your third party interface cable.

Note: Unless you have a separate hardware interface for PTT, you
will need to apply transmit audio to the mic jack *or* the AFSK
jack as the TS-440 lacks a CAT command that causes transmission
from the ACC2 jack (audio in on pin 11) and mutes the mic.

Hi John,
thanks for that. Now try it again with this command:

The difference being that hardware handshaking may not be needed
with your CAT interface. Some loop RTS/CTS at the rig end to free up
both DTR and RTS for switching PTT etc.

Hi Ben and Tom,

this is exactly what happens. WSJT-X does not get informed when the audio devices it is using are changed or re-routed by another application, like remote access tools. Restarting WSJT-X should resolve the issue. In theory only the default audio devices should be affected so using a second sound card for WSJT-X may avoid this issue.

Can it be done by using a simple usb plug in sound card which I can plug the spkr into, or does it require something more elaborate.

Hi Reg,

if you have any program that uses audio, or even the operating system sounds then you need a second soundcard. A low cost USB sound card dongle is suitable so long as it supports 48,000 Hz sample rates. There's no need to spend much money, examples are available new for around 10$ on your favourite online shopping site. Use the PC's built in sound card to drive your speakers and microphone for general use and communications like Skype, FaceTime, etc. and use the second external sound card for connecting your rig audio in and out. You can select the sound card used by WSJT-X from the "Settings->Audio" panel.

Hi Tapio,

is this still the case with WSJT-X v2.2.0 RC1?

I found RDP does odd things with audio devices. I suspect it momentarily causes the audio device to disappear or something as it intercepts it, causing WSJT-X to hiccup. I switched to TeamViewer and VNC (depending if I’m local or not) and it works fine.

Hi John,

thanks for that. Now try it again with this command:

rigctl-wsjtx -m 2002 -r COM7 -s 4800 -vvvvv -Z f

The difference being that hardware handshaking may not be needed with your CAT interface. Some loop RTS/CTS at the rig end to free up both DTR and RTS for switching PTT etc.

Remember friends, I had to disable CTS the last time I used a 440 with WSJT-X.

I see also, it reported the proper frequency this time. I must have bumped the knob up .01kHz at some point.

Hi John,

thanks for that.

I see also, it reported the proper frequency this time. I must have bumped the knob up .01kHz at some point.

Hi John,

thanks for that.

If I am reading this correctly, is this thing trying to figure out my serial number?  If that is what it needs, I have it...

Ok, why are the outputs so different between cmd prompt & powershell?

John,

please run the command from a CMD prompt, not Power Shell please.

Ok Bill & Joe,

I retried this and got weird stuff, finally used a different entry mode (power shell) and it seems to work.

This is what I got back: My comments are in RED!

Suggestion [3,General]: The command rigctl-wsjtx was not found, but does exist in the current location. Windows PowerShe
ll does not load commands from the current location by default. If you trust this command, instead type: ".\rigctl-wsjtx
". See "get-help about_Command_Precedence" for more details.

PS D:\HAM RADIO stuff\WSJT-X\WSJT-X 2.2.0-rc (beta)\wsjtx\bin> .\rigctl-wsjtx   ...so I did...   As you can see below, I am on COM7

interesting that it does talk... basically... However...

Rig command: -m 2002 -r COM7 -s 4800 -Cserial_handshake=Hardware -vvvvv -Z f

Rig command: Mode: FM     <...  ok, B.S.! I am looking at the rigs front panel, and it clearly says, it is on USB, NOT FM!!!
Passband: 15000    <... nonsense, the highest bandwidth filter is 9k! and it's set to the 2.8k filter, which is a hardwired switch!

Rig command:
Rig command: Power [0.0..1.0]: Mode: power2mW: error = Invalid parameter

Rig command:
Rig command:
Rig command: Split: 0
TX VFO: VFOA      Hey, hey! It got one or two right...

Rig command:
Rig command: Power mW: Mode: mW2power: error = Invalid parameter

Rig command:
Rig command:
Rig command: XIT: set_xit: error = Invalid parameter

...So I typed in the IF command, the only one I know...
Rig command: if
Rig command: if
TX Frequency: 145000000  <...  not even close! It's on 80M @ 3.573MHz

Rig command: Frequency: 145000000
VFO: VFOA

---------------------------------------------
Now, here is something I found out on Hamlib, on Sourceforge...

"There was a patch applied to the backend prior to 1.2.14 that changed
the IF command length from 29 to 38 characters."
As you can see Bill, NOTHING here is really reporting correctly!

Which begs the question...
What are YOUR IF command length settings in wsjt-x for both the Kenwood TS-440 & TS-140S selections???
I bet they are different, and I'd also bet if you did an experiment and changed the 440, to the same as the 140S, that the 440 would work! But honestly, that is a guess, as I am going off of what others are saying on an unconfirmed site...

I also snipped the panel... attached below...

I dunno, by the looks of it, I think perhaps that command length may be the issue... again, difference between 440 & 440S perhaps...
Could you please send a list of all of the commands for this rigctl, so that I can play and see what it says; though by the looks of it, they will mostly all be incorrect answers.
And please, I ask again, would you please send me the command codes for both the 140S and 440. Maybe I will see something else different between them.

Thanks...
