Locked FT4 saved as Mode:MFSK and Submode:FT4

Hi

When I save a QSO in mode FT4 it is being save as Mode:MFSK and SUBMODE:FT4.

When I import this in Deluxe (Auto) it is made as MFSK, can anything in v 2.2.0 rc1 be setup so it is n save as Mode:FT4

FT4 contact is save as:

<call:6>xxxxxx <gridsquare:0> <mode:4>MFSK <submode:3>FT4

FT8 is save as:

<call:6>xxxxxx <gridsquare:4>JN11 <mode:3>FT8

none of that should be necessary. So long as the previous instances of wsjtx.exe and jt9.exe have gone away then the next start of WSJT-X will allow you to delete the lock file and continue normally.
What I normally do in this situation is run "top" and then kill wsjtx-x or jst8call. No need to reboot.

IMHO .. when in JT65, JT9, FT8, and FT4 ,  the only station that should send an RRR, is the CQ station, same for the RR73.

However, the contest modes are completely different, for instance, in NA VHF Contest mode, the answering station sends the RRR after receiving an R GRID Tx from the CQ station.

The program will properly respond when the proper sequence is used.   Saving 15 seconds, or in FT4 7 seconds, causes more issues, and actually winds up taking more time to correct than to let it run properly

For that matter why not make Msg2 the calling Msg and save time?  I do this manually but when running FT4 I fail to be fast enough about 25% of the time.

Until about a year ago, I used Win10 and plain old Notepad++ (a free programmer's text editor) to create a desktop file called eqslupdate.adi .
I would use Notepad++ to open my local wsjtx_log.adi file, highlight and copy the lines of the most recent contacts, paste them into eqslupdate.adi, and then upload this file to eQSL via login thru Firefox. Typically, I would delete the lines of contacts from the last upload before sending it, so no dupes. The ADIF is just a plain text file so Notepad++ handles it with no problems.

I did the same thing for LoTW via TQSL. It was a totally manual process, but it worked fine and the cost was zero. Nearly all Linux distros include a text editor (emacs ?) but Notepad++ is also available for Linux.
Now I have Win 10/JT Alert/AC-log setup for totally automatic upload to LoTW, but the same can be done for eQSL.

Dear Dave,

Thank you, I tried the --config-dir method, and had two instances of Flrig up and running, but the config files are in the same folder and there is nowhere to specify different ports for them. You reply made me realize that  i have to give full path for the "config dir" so that they be separated in different directories, and then different ports can be assigned. Worked like a charm.

Thanks again!

OBVIOUSLY, because it often happens in the midst of something critical to you or it happens too often. OTOH it is usually because the owner has done something wrong.

Nevertheless it is valid to call it a PITA.

What is the big pain about rebooting Windows 10?  It takes my computer about 30 to 40 seconds max to do a reboot and then I am back with all my programs running.  A simple "restart" from a right click in the start menu is all it takes.  73, Ray AA4EZ

The year before FT8 was released, I was working 6M JT65 double Es to the east when a JA station called me (off the back/side of my antenna. I swung around, worked him, turned back E, another JA called, worked him. A few minutes later, a W5 started calling him within 1-2 Hz of zero beat on the JA's TX cycle. WSJT-X decoded both stations perfectly for several cycles. I was pointed E, so the W5 was at least 10 dB louder.

That is also why I had suggested to move the # of decodes up to & inside the band activity title bar.

It it certainly handy to know.

As it usually is impossible to count the number of decoded signals (before there is a new RX sequence) I would suggest that WSJT-X should present this number. For the time being it could be seen as a measure of band activity and in the future it could be used to compare different versions of the program.

Hi Robert,

Yes; the TS-440S can only run a max of 4800 baud.  It can run slower, down to 1200, that takes some effort, disassembly, etc.

Please remember, these were built from 1982 till 1990, so the chips, terminals, etc. were all pretty limited.

My first modem was only 110 baud! My second only 300!

Hi John,

I am not sure if this will fix anything but can you do the following please.

In WSJT-X go to "Settings->Radio", check the "PTT Method->RTS" option,
change the "PTT Method->Port" to COM7, and finally check the "PTT
Method->CAT" option.

Try "Test CAT" and report back any error please?

Hi Ed,
I start 2nd Instance with 3dB lower the output gain (Split None, PTT VOX, same TX cycle to 1st instance and some more) then send CQ at same time. Often both called so keep running parallel 5W1STAYSAFE and 5W1SA if the band is not congested.

Yes, before dawn and until a couple hours after is the peak for randoms (local your time)

Around 6 p.m. is the minimum

There are randoms all day.

Google Meteor Scatter...there are some wonderful explanations with much greater detail there.
