Is there a secret way to?
David R. Hassall WA5DJJ <dhassall@...>
Dear Gang,
Is there a secret way to run two instances of WSJTX on a raspberry pi model 3B? I presently run QRSS program and one instance of WSJTX doing WSPR decoding. I want to add another instance of WSJTX doing JT9 decoding. I am scratching my head but nothing is coming up. Any suggestions?
If I can’t get this configured, I guess I will just add another raspberry pi and twin the audio out of the receiver. But trying to see if I can do both of them in a single raspberry pi.
Thanks for the bandwidth.
Take care and have fun. Be Safe Be well. 73 Dave Hassall WA5DJJ Las Cruces, New Mexico Website: http://www.zianet.com/dhassall/ QRSS SUPER GRABBER WEBSITE: http://www.qsl.net/wa5djj/

Just workaround the Rig Control issue by using DX Lab suite Commander option bridging from WSJT-X and my FT-991A. Running split, seem to work okay.

Jay, By waterfall not being sized horizontally do you mean you cannot extend the right side of the wide graph out to around 3000 KHz? If that's the case, increase your bins/pixel setting to a higher number like 5, then try to stretch the right side out to around 3KHz.
DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE OF COMPRESSING YOUR WIDE GRAPH SCREEN. If you reduce the width to say, 1000 Hz, to give yourself more room on the screen for other apps, you will NOT decode any signals with tone frequencies above 1000 Hz. This mistake is being made, it seems, by a number of FT8 & FT4 ops. When answering a very strong station calling CQ low in the band and calling them around 2 KHz, they call CQ in my face. Only when I move closer to their lower tone frequency will they return my call, giving me equally strong dB reports.
Also, I find that a number of DX stations are now transmitting with a tone below 200 Hz. If your Wide Graph "Start" setting is 200 Hz, you will not copy any stations below 200 Hz. I noticed this recently when TI9A was active. I could hear the very low tones but could not decode them until I reduced the "Start" setting to 100 Hz.

I installed the new version today for the first time and you can add another to the list for FT-991 not working with version 2.2.0. I reinstalled v2.1.2 just to check and it works fine.
The detailed error I am getting is "HAMlib error: Invalid parameter while getting correct frequency". It decodes fine but it can neither retrieve nor set the frequency. Looking forward to a fix... Jerry |

Hi I am new to the group but I have been having the same problem getting S+P to trigger in FT4 mode. Ver 2.2.0 under Win10. I have tried a second Pc, re-installing etc. Have you managed to make S+P work?

Re: Tabula Rasa
Gday Alan. Long time since we talked about the 60 metre Beacon here in Alice Springs. I'm using WSJT-X GA 2.2.0 and a Yaesu FT-991, which model of radio seems to have been causing some issues. However, I have got my FT-8 fix back by using Ham Radio Deluxe as an intermediary and am completing QSOs with Europe.
Somehow HRD it was able to change the settings for the source of Tx Audio from Front/Mic to Rear/Data. The field containing those parameters is normally greyed out, and I have never been able to cause that change myself.
So I haven't had to rid myself of gremlins by wiping the slate clean. I just wish I understood exactly how HRD was able to perform its magic 😉

Greg,
If you have never been there then maybe the ALL_WSPR.TXT is getting very big. If you never use this it may be renamed or deleted. Although it just might answer a query "Were you transmitting then? Or, if you really want a complete fresh start delete, or rename everything.

But I'm not sure it is really worth doing this, if there were bad settings WSJT-X would not have been working properly and you would have reset it correctly.

Thanks Neil. I’ve got it under control now. I have interposed Ham Radio Deluxe between WSJT-X and my FT-991, and have just completed an FT-8 QSO with a German station on 40m. All is well with the world once more 😉

On the WSJT-X top menu, Open the FILE menu, and look for the Open Log Directory menu item. It will open to the log directory where WSJT-X keep the log, as well as the WSJTX.INI file which holds the settings. You can close WSJT-X now, and then rename the WSJTX.ini file to something else say: WSJTXini.old . Close the directory, start WSJT-X and it will create the file with all defaults. Just make sure you have all the rig and audio settings written down before you do this.

Re: Self decodes
Larry Koziel
I've been operating FT8 for years now and had never seen this before. Then it happened twice within a week when coincidentally, a new version came out. And it seems to me that the watchdog timing is different in this release. I think before, the timeout would happen at the beginning of a transmit period and usually I wasn't fast enough to re-enable transmit fast enough to send a decodable transmission. The 2.2.0 version, it seems to me, times out at the end of a transmission period so you now have 15 seconds to decide what to do. I thought maybe the different timing had something to do with it. Anyway, I tried to search here for any other reports of this behavior, and I didn't find any. Maybe I just wasn't using the right search terms. |

Re: WSJT-X on Mac
Hi Geoff,
I have see reports that on some macOS
versions the latest Si Labs VCP drivers do not work correctly, I
don't know the exact details but it may be worth tracking down
older versions. OTOH you now have CAT working so maybe not worth
the trouble.

Hi Bill, Thanks for the reply. I do not have that option enabled, I think it may have been you that said that to someone else before around here, and while I was doing my own research before admitting defeat and asking for help, it was one of the things that I tried. I have removed the slightly older Silicon Labs driver from the Mac and now loaded the latest 5.3.5 version which supports the 64-bit O/S. However still absolutely no joy with the USB cable. No other serial ports visible apart from USB and two Bluetooth cu. and tty. Ports. However, by using an RT Systems USB/CI-V cable (as suggested by Jim (W4ATK)) everything suddenly comes alive and I have 4 new serial port options that aren’t there on the straight USB/USB cable. I’m seeing the waterfall display and getting FT8 traffic. Thanks again for the help. I feel I am getting somewhere now. 73 Geoff (G8FKL)

Hi all, I am very new to Dig modes, I usually work /P CW or SSB. I am not a computer expert, but I am fairly computer literate. I have an FT 817nd, ZLP MiniProSC and a CAT interface with a genuine Prolific Chipset. All the cables are good quality and have Ferrite chokes at each end. The antenna is a monoband dipole cut for 20m in my loft, I am 2 floors below. I have a Dell Latitude E7440 that is dual booted with Win10 and Linux Mint 19.3. I use the Linux as my main OS and Win for when I really need it. I have WSJTX 2.2.0 on both systems, and previously had 2.1.2 on the Linux system. On Linux I can get everything set up and decoding but I never get a green light on CAT test, and PTT test button keys the radio up but remains red and the radio remains in transmit until I press the button again. When trying to run the software it receives and decodes fine, but at the end of the transmit cycle I get a HamLib error something like rig refused command while switching VFOs. (Interestingly I also get the same trying to run JS8Call). Clicking the retry button on the error popup resets the CAT and the red spot turns green again until the end on the next transmit cycle On my Windows setup, with exactly the same settings the system works flawlessly, except the PTT test always stays red. However as I say it's all working fine and it is currently sitting here running WSPR exactly as expected and I am hearing stations and being heard. I also tried installing on a box fresh Ubuntu 18.04 installation and had the same problems. I really would like to get this going on Linux, any ideas what might be going on? If you want to get computer techy you may need to walk me through in baby steps!! I can't always reply straight away so please don't think I am rude or unappreciative if you reply and I don't respond straight away.Hi Neil, the FT-817/857/897(D) series of rigs do not accept CAT QSY commands while they are transmitting. This means that you must not check the "Settings->General->Allow Tx frequency changes while transmitting" option. Which option do you have checked on the "Settings->Radio->PTT Method" panel? 73 Bill G4WJS. |

Re: Language setting on MacOS Catalina

Hi Keith,
You can use the OS X tool Automator. Open it, create a new Application, and make that application's action "Run Shell Script". In the box, put: /Applications/wsjtx.app/Contents/MacOS/wsjtx -l en Then open the new application you've created with Automator (with the robot icon) instead of opening wsjtx directly. I use this with --rig-name to run a K3s and an IC-9700 at the same time. 73, Ryan |
