Dear Gang,

Is there a secret way to run two instances of WSJTX on a raspberry pi model 3B?   I presently run QRSS program and one instance of WSJTX doing WSPR decoding.   I want to add another instance of WSJTX doing JT9 decoding.   I am scratching my head but nothing is coming up.   Any suggestions?

If I can’t get this configured, I guess I will just add another raspberry pi and twin the audio out of the receiver.  But trying to see if I can do both of them in a single raspberry pi.

Thanks for the bandwidth.

Take care and have fun.   Be Safe Be well.

Check that you have not inadvertently added any non-zero frequency offsets into 6m and 10m rows in the "Preferences->Frequencies->Station Information" table.

Jay,

By waterfall not being sized horizontally do you mean you cannot extend the right side of the wide graph out to around 3000 KHz? If that's the case, increase your bins/pixel setting to a higher number like 5, then try to stretch the right side out to around 3KHz.

DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE OF COMPRESSING YOUR WIDE GRAPH SCREEN.

If you reduce the width to say, 1000 Hz, to give yourself more room on the screen for other apps, you will NOT decode any signals with tone frequencies above 1000 Hz. This mistake is being made, it seems, by a number of FT8 & FT4 ops. When answering a very strong station calling CQ low in the band and calling them around 2 KHz, they call CQ in my face. Only when I move closer to their lower tone frequency will they return my call, giving me equally strong dB reports.

Also, I find that a number of DX stations are now transmitting with a tone below 200 Hz. If your Wide Graph "Start" setting is 200 Hz, you will not copy any stations below 200 Hz. I noticed this recently when TI9A was active. I could hear the very low tones but could not decode them until I reduced the "Start" setting to 100 Hz.

I installed the new version today for the first time and you can add another to the list for FT-991 not working with version 2.2.0.  I reinstalled v2.1.2 just to check and it works fine.

The detailed error I am getting is "HAMlib error: Invalid parameter while getting correct frequency".  It decodes fine but it can neither retrieve nor set the frequency.

Looking forward to a fix...

Gday Alan. Long time since we talked about the 60 metre Beacon here in Alice Springs. I'm using WSJT-X GA 2.2.0 and a Yaesu FT-991, which model of radio seems to have been causing some issues.  However, I have got my FT-8 fix back by using Ham Radio Deluxe as an intermediary and am completing QSOs with Europe.

Somehow HRD it was able to change the settings for the source of Tx Audio from Front/Mic to Rear/Data. The field containing those parameters is normally greyed out, and I have never been able to cause that change myself.

So I haven't had to rid myself of gremlins by wiping the slate clean. I just wish I understood exactly how HRD was able to perform its magic 😉

Greg,

If you have never been there then maybe the ALL_WSPR.TXT is getting very big. If you never use this it may be renamed or deleted. Although it just might answer a query "Were you transmitting then? Or, if you really want a complete fresh start delete, or rename everything.

But I'm not sure it is really worth doing this, if there were bad settings WSJT-X would not have been working properly and you would have reset it correctly.

On the WSJT-X top menu,  Open the FILE menu, and look for the Open Log Directory menu item.     It will open to the log directory where WSJT-X keep the log, as well as the WSJTX.INI file which holds the settings.

You can close WSJT-X now, and then rename the WSJTX.ini file to something else say:   WSJTXini.old .

Close the directory, start WSJT-X and it will create the file with all defaults.   Just make sure you have all the rig and audio settings written down before you do this.

I am not worried about “security”; but I would like to be able to go to a Tabula Rasa  -- a clean sheet  -- just to be satisfied that previous setting choices I made in “Settings” are not interfering with those I wish to use now.

I have little experience in using “regedit”, but know how to get there, although I don’t know what to delete, but there must be something there which lingers.

I've been operating FT8 for years now and had never seen this before. Then it happened twice within a week when coincidentally, a new version came out.

And it seems to me that the watchdog timing is different in this release. I think before, the timeout would happen at the beginning of a transmit period and usually I wasn't fast enough to re-enable transmit fast enough to send a decodable transmission. The 2.2.0 version, it seems to me, times out at the end of a transmission period so you now have 15 seconds to decide what to do. I thought maybe the different timing had something to do with it.

Anyway, I tried to search here for any other reports of this behavior, and I didn't find any. Maybe I just wasn't using the right search terms.

I resolved this when I used a USB-CI-V cable and connected directly to the IC-9100 CI-V port on the rear of the IC-9100. Since that one change and still using the IC-9100 USB CODECs I had no more aggravating issues.

I even downloaded the service manual and traced out the USB to CI-V “wiring” within the IC-9100 and it seemed straight forward but until the direct CI-V connection, I still had issues.
