Hi

Just to let you know I have run wsjtx 2.1.2 linked to HDSDR on both w7 and w10 machines and I can take you through my setup, if you wish.

Before that can you tell me what rig are you using ie what is HDSDR driving. I am using a selection of softrocks for RX and TX.

One further comment is that I recently moved from HDSDR to Quisk for wsjtx and other data software since it has more/better options.
Although as the manual says it is not for the faint hearted, as it requires more manual intervention.

Subject: [WSJTX] StartUp Issue #install

Hi,

at present i have an issue with the startup. If i run my wsjtx 2.1.2 64bit on my win 10 (home), the startup canceled without an error message.

What happend before:
- I have installed wsjtx and it worked fine.
- I have installed HDSDR with OmniRig 2.0
- I have do a mistake in the config in the rig control.
- After that, wsjtx won`t came up.
- I have done after that, many things.. Kick the Procesess, delete the .lock, reboot. x-times, reinstall, delete with revo, etc...
- But, all what i should do, it does not work.

so currently i do not have any idea, what i should do next?

The best way i think, is to debug at startup. But how, do i do that?

Thanks all for the support.   Yes, it turns out that the very active window on the installation that works, is responding to the built in laptop mic.

I shout or whistle, and it goes crazy.  Did it just now, with no radio or SignalLink connected.

I will look into the .ini file suggestion, and also revisiting Signalink support.

I decided to dedicate a laptop to the radio after trying FT8 last fall, and experiencing a catastrophic failure.  For some reason, ALL of my docs disappeared.

Could not find the files anywhere, file recovery didn't work, Microsoft even took possession of it (nice thing about living in Seattle is over the years got lots of free software and support, multiple neighbors could take me to the company store with incredible discounts).  So I had a suspicion that the catastrophe may have been related to the computer being hooked to a radio with a very iffy antenna.  End fed wire of unknown characteristics fed by a tuner, and I could imagine that with the feedpoint being right in the radio room, the RF voltage at the end of that wire could be very high, and feed right back to the computer.

So on the day after Thanksgiving, I decided to look for Black Friday deals for a dedicated radio room laptop.

I actually found a new Lenovo with Win10, SSD,  direct from the factory for $99 with free shipping. So that is what I bought, and that is the new "deaf" computer.

My main laptop that had the failure, once I was sure there would be no recovery of the doc files, I flattened the hard drive and did a clean installation of Windows 10.

The really weird thing about that failure, it was ONLY the docs in the documents subdirectory that were gone.

Tine to shift gears.  I have a deadline.  Time to write the weekly ARRL Propagation Bulletin.

I think it was early spring 1991 that I took it over from Ed Tilton, W1HDQ (a genuine expert on HF propagation),

By now I must have written over 1500 of them, every Thursday night, and I am still learning great stuff from my readers.

But I digress.....

Set the K3S up for Digital Analog, following instructions in the manual. Then study and follow the instructions in the WSJT-X User Guide. Make sure that you have the latest version of both the program and the user guide from the WSJT-X website.

Hi all,
Many thanks for all the replies.
I have gone through and checked every setting and changed over to USB CODEC for both input and output audio.
I have also rechecked the ALC setting.
Now it seems to be working ok.
I have made a handful of contacts so far, it does occasionally "spit the dummy" and I start hearing the TX tone again from the laptop and no transmitter output.

I shut it all down and restart WSJTx and MLDX and all good again.

Time will tell.
Cheers

Use the WIDTH control to widen the IF filter bandpass from the default 500 Hz to around 3000 Hz. Adjust the radio's LINE OUT level and sound card level controls the same as for other radios, to get an appropriate noise level reading on receive.

To adjust transmit levels, leave the Pwr slider on the right side of the WSJT-X window all the way up and do not use it to adjust output power. Instead, with the audio transmit frequency in the middle of the bandpass (say, around 1600 Hz), set the sound card level controls and K3's MIC gain control so that the K3's ALC meter reads 4 bars with the 5th bar flickering while transmitting. Use the K3's PWR control to set the desired output power. Do not adjust the audio level to control output power, because doing that will not work correctly on Elecraft radios. Just leave the audio gain fixed and adjust the PWR control on the K3.

For the Split Operation setting, Fake It works better for me than Rig (shorter delays when starting a transmission).

Hi Art,

if you are using MS Windows 10 then make sure you have allowed WSJT-X access to microphone devices in the Windows Camera and Microphone Privacy settings.

Tad, if I'm reading your post correctly I really think that following the SignaLink setup (drill down on "sound settings") will solve the issue (there is even a section about "issues after W10 updates). Is it possible that your "another computer" has a microphone that is feeding room sounds to the WSJT-X program? Try whistling and see what happens?  If the issue persists please post what radio you are using, how you are connecting the radio to the SignaLink -- datacable, audio cables etc.

After entering the settings you list and restarting it should work.
If not there is another problem.
My comment was from the fact that you just installed and got that error.
I do not use the Windows 10 virus so cant address it directly.
Will be glad to try to help you through I have worked with several
people who do use 10.
If so phone is best as emails could take days to work out.
If it gets bad enough I have a network engineer who works for me part time
