Well ... you should upgrade to version 2.1.2 which is the latest. That said, you're looking for the RTTY Contest which has the basic exchange.

In WSJT-X vs 2.01 advanced settings, I do not see a tab for FT8 Dx Contest that allows me to set the exchange for my state.

I found the problem. I was sending a malformed response to a MD request. I don't have a clue what I changed from Window to Linux, but problem solved.

I too have difficulty understanding why so many are having issues with WIN 10
and ham software.
We must take into account that we cannot see what is on the "issue" computers
and who else uses them,

Agreed, Linux is rock stable and well worth the time to learn.
I've installed Ubuntu on several machines in recent years, and the typical ham operator will have little trouble getting this running.

That did it, and now it is opening fine to be able to configure.
I found mines in
User/(PC Name)/AppData/local/WSJT-X/WSJT-X.ini
Remove Omin-Rig 1
and it is opening fine
