Then a GPS Dongle seems to be the solution. Same as a POTA/SOTA activation.

With full ntp, the drift correction factor calculated for you clock will allow it to stay in sync far, far, longer that it could umcorrected. For long term issues, eithe GPS or a WWV/WWVB based time

There is a *LOT* wrong with sntp! It is a crude bastardization of ntp, which is incapable of smoothly managing a clock (which is why those using it likely have problems! Real ntp rarely (if ever) does

I do not know where it went but the original problem was using a SNTP updating every minute.
Not CPU cycles but simply a lot of jitter possible disrupting decoding.
Nothing really wrong with SNTP,

One other thing to note (and the original message has been lost) was someone had mentioned an ntp client taking CPU resources away from WSJTX . . . . Not sure where the idea came from that time

If you are referring to configuring multiple/additional servers in ntpd (or the Meinberg package thereof) it is simply a matter of adding more server lines in the config file - ntp.conf. Yank, paste,

I have never really paid much attention to which servers I have used, but with a "true" ntpd deployment on *nix, I routinely hold 1.5ms (or less), and I am certain that nothing is within 500 miles

That has been the "normal" ntpd behaviour on advanced platforms for decades! The issue has been that Windows has been such a blunt instrument, that it did not support drift adjustments for those same

How do I change it back?
Have you possibly changed the N avg value? The lower value the wider spacing.

I will add that there are some dodgy time servers around and you keep a close eye on your OT or use time.is for a while.
