Right. RTFM. :) Elecraft radios remember lots of settings by band and mode.

locked debug tip

Jim Cooper

Here is a little debug tip to put away
until you need it ...

For the past couple of days, I was frustrated
because left clicks of the mouse in both the
left Band Activity window and the right
Rx Frequency window did nothing ... although
left clicks in the lower area of WSJT and in
JTalert worked ok ... further odd behavior
was that on the desktop, a double click on a
shortcut would not activate it, though a single
click would select it (indicating the mouse click
was working).

Solution turned out; somehow, in the mouse
configuration, the 'click speed' had gotten set
all the way up at the fast end ... so any normal
double-click was not fast enough to activate !!

Moved the slider back toward center and all is
well in clicky land again. :))

FWIW on my FT991 I set the Custom Switch button to take me to the correct

I was helping a friend set up his K3S for FT8 this afternoon. Haven't
played with one of those before, quite a challenge. Our main problem was
getting audio into the transmitter. What finally worked was to go into
the radio menu and set MIC SEL to LINE IN. Immediately made contacts in
Florida, Russia, and Japan. PSKReporter showed reception all over the
US, Switzerland, Russia, Japan, the Carribbean, West Africa, etc. Who
says there is no propagation?

My first surprise was in the WSJT configuration, I set the mode to
Pkt/Data and it did not work. I had to set it to None. Then set the
radio to USB, not Data, and change the MIC SEL to LINE IN. It seems a
nuisance to have to go into the menu and change the MIC SEL each time
you want to move from voice to FT8. Most radios I set up, I chose the
Pkt/Data and when I select a band in the band map, it automatically sets
the radio to DATA and audio flows properly. That does not seem to be the
case for the Elecraft.

Did I miss something in the configuration? Surely one does not have to
go into the menu and make changes every time he wants to go from SSB to
FT8?

Any insights appreciated.

YES! JTJAlert supports DXKeeper and a few other popular logging programs
that keep track of QSOs, awards, QSLs, etc. Both programs are FREEWARE.
I've been using DXKeeper since getting back on the air in 2003.
Excellent support for LOTW, eQSL, and Clublog.

I have FLDIGI working FLRIG with no problem on a PI 4.

However, to get WSJT-X to work, I had to downgrade to 2.1.0 because as soon as I select FLRIG, WSJT-X cold crashes.  This is running 2.1.2, which is not supposed to be affected by the Hamlib bug.

To get FLDIGI to work, it is easier to setup FLRIG to control the radio and then set FLDIGI to FLRIG.  When it works, you can just use FLRIG and have WSJT-X also use FLRIG.

Building a portable digital station. Got the same error when I fired things up and tried to use WSJT-X.

Hamlib error: Command rejected by the rig while setting frequency.

WSJT-X 2.1, RPi 4 running Buster, Signalink interface, CAT control, FT-897, FT-817

Both FT-897 and FT-817 do it.
Clicking retry clears error until one of the conditions mentioned in the previous post occurs.
Tried flrig interface. Crashes WSJT-X.

Thanks.

So why would one need such an option in the program itself.

WSJT-X does not upload to LoTW .. how in the world would it know what was sent??    Frankly, that's what utility programs are for like JT-Alert and the like.

If you use N1MM in SO2R you can load 2 separate instances of WSJT one for each entry window. This does what you are asking..

I write the results article for the RTTY Roundup in QST.

Please send me any high resolution photos you may have of your RTTY Roundup operation, station, etc. Note that the QST editors tend to prefer photos that have people in them but not exclusively.

Also if you have any stories or observations that you didn't already post to 3830scores.com or include in your soapbox, please send those along as well.

Best way is to reply to this message, or in a separate message with something like "Roundup article" in the subject line :)

I ran as many as three instances at one time. 2 on HF and one on 6 meters.

Besides WSJTX supporting it — and only one install is required the code is re-entrant — each instance just needs to be named. No multiple installs required. JTAlert also needs the instances named.

Checkout WSJT-X User Guide FAQ on multiple instances. 16.2 in the FAQ.

And in the support@...:

Then read up on SO2R regarding two HF rigs and one antenna — a HF mux and band pass filters.  SO2R stands for single operator 2 radios.

Good luck!
