Hi Reino and all,

Note: My computer knowledge (15 years ago) was Intermediate at best.
Prior to sending out my first email, I checked user>AppData>Local>WSJT-X for All.txt, WSJT-X.ini, wsjtx.log files (I couldn't figure out a way to attach the .jpg file to show a screen print.

This morning, I could not duplicate the running error with 2.5.4. The app, as before attempted to run, but didn't produce an error.

Next I focused on jt9.exe running in the back ground using the Task Manager app. Nothing found

I did find jt9.exe in C:\WSJT\wsjtx\bin.

At this point, I stuck!

Did you reboot? Should reboot after loading newer version.

To Gary's point...This was all done a day or two before our vacation and I don't recall rebooting then. When we got back from our trip the problem was still there.

Hi Bill,

As presented in User Guide 7.4. Contest Messages both NA VHF Contest and WW Digi Contest (HF) exchange only grid and use that message. The latter ends with RR73, no 73.

Many of the Field Day QSOs that should have been completed were using the shortened method. If WSJT-X didn't progress through to the point the log applet displayed, I kept going three times or so and went on. Those stations were not logged.

locked ICOM IC-7300 & Vara HF Winlink & WSJT-X issues - Solved! #Icom #install

Lyle Giese

I already posted this info on the VARA-MODEM area, but thought this might be of use over here also.  This can happen with any two programs accessing your radio using a virtual USB ComPort.

Just in case anyone else stumbles across this. Not sure if this is documented any where but...

Just getting starting with Winlink & Vara HF. Turn on IC-7300. Open Winlink and all works as it should and I am able to send/receive email. Close Winlink. Open WSJT-X doesn't work. Cann't talk to IC-7300.

Have to exit WSJT-X, power cycle IC-7300. Open WSJT-X, works fine. Close WSJT-X. Open Winlink, Open Vara HF session, doesn't talk to radio. Close Winlink, power cycle IC-7300. Open Winlink, Vara HF works fine.

Restarting Win 10 computer has no effect in clearing the control lockout. Have to power cycle IC-7300 to clear control lockout when openning the second program.

Then I rechecked radio setting between the two programs and when setting them up, just accepted the default values and they worked until I tried to use the other program without power cycling the IC-7300.

I rechecked the radio settings and saw a difference. The Baud rate for the fake USB/com port was different between the two programs. Reset Vara HF to the same baud rate WSJT-X used and now I can switch between program without having tp power cycle the radio. Apparently, the IC-7300 locks into the first com port baud rate and stays there until it is power cycled. ARGHH! WSJT-X defaulted to 1115,200 and Vara HF defaulted to 9600.

Setting baud rate on WSJT-X:
Open WSJT-X --> File --> Settings --> Radio --> Baud Rate defaulted to 115200.

Setting baud rate on Vara HF:
Open Winlink --> open Vara HF Winlink session --> Settings --> Radio Setup --> Radio Control Port section --> Baud, defaulted to 9600, reset to 115200 and click on Update

If you reset the baud rate in Vara HF, you may need to exit Winlink completely and power cycle your IC-7300 and then you will be good to go.

Also in the Radio Setup page for Vara HF, the USB Digital, not USB needs to be used. I think it defaulted to USB instead, but I discovered that early one.

Hope this helps someone else!

Lawton first thing make sure squelch is not involved.

Check the Preset settings as described in the manual on page 65. Also make
sure the mode is USB and Preset as described on the top of page 65.

Next check settings in wsjt both for radio and audio codecs. Next check
device manager on the pc to see if the downloaded device drivers are on the
pc.

On any band I am collecting grids.
Many stations respond to my CQ with a report and consequently I ignore them initially. If they persist I modify Tx1 to ask for a grid and only on one occasion out of possibly hundreds has a station then come back to me with a standard response. Some countries are worse than others (Italy and Russia(who I ignore anyway)).

If a station is too tight for time to not send their grid, but send the report 4 or 5 times then the time saving is lost.

GM Bill.
Many folks on 6m are grid chasers. All they are looking for is the grid, so they use the NA VHF contest mode (CM), which does cause some confusion on .313. Many times, very popular (needed for FFMA) grid activations move to other 6m frequencies to avoid this when the band is crowded. A signal report is assumed to be 59 or 599 as is given automatically most of the time, except for CW, to speed contacts. This can double the contact counts for those rovers and folks needing that "rare grid" during the same time frame. A win-win for them, but some confusion for others.

Hi, Dennis. If you are receiving an answer to a CQ in contest mode, the TX Enable doesnt clear until it's logged or ready to be logged, which happens about 2 seconds before you are supposed to be TXing again...not a reasonable amount of time.

Hi Larry

You have two questions. First why you did not get any QSOs using 2.6.0-rc1? What was wrong? You should tell more what else you found e.g. whether you really had output power or something else.

The second one is simple. You may have installed 2.5.4 while WSJT-X was running. So process JT9.exe was still running, when you tried run the 2.5.4. As Gary said you may restart Windows or you may try to kill the orphan FT9.exe process.

The "R" appears when the other station is using Contest Mode CM in NA VHF contest mode - Advanced tab.
Many 6M rover stations prefer CM in addition to using it in VHF contests.
