Look into it a bit, as has been done, and even us non-tekkies quickly realize how absurd it is to imagine that WSPR at HF could have located an aircraft in a location thousands of kilometers from the participating stations.  It's a little long (19 minutes), but mid-way through <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KefDzzDAeew>, HRDX thoroughly demolishes the whole long-range wspr location argument.

Platform location services are not sufficiently accurate
for grid determination in many cases. This is particularly
true for those in rural areas.

I'd like to request that:
a) Auto Grid be set on by default, wherever any location service exists;

This would avoid some problems with PSKReporter spots from an incorrect grid when someone does a portable operation and forgets to set the grid.

Take a look at your sound control panel when this happens.I'll bet your audio is going out another device. This can happen when the audio devices get reset.  Either due to you plugging/unplugging a USB device or RFI causing a device reset.Getting your shack grounding system in good order is a must.Chokes can help.  Particularly on AC transformers from alarm systems, HVAC and sprinkler systems because those are all big antenna systems and AC transformers just love sine waves.
So..first off please describe your grounding system.

I have been having an issue for months where my WSJT-X will function properly for a while in both RX and TX, but then fail.  After some time (even less than an hour of idle time) it will remain receiving but when I try to TX or TUNE, the audio over USB fails (no RF output) even though the transceiver gets keyed to TX.  The Configuration Settings are not changing.  I do have USB port Power Management 'disabled', so the PC (WIN10) is not shutting down these ports to save power.  I have to shut down WSJT-X then relaunch it to get TX working again.  Suggestions appreciated. OmniRig is WIndows only.OmniRig's API is a Windows-only thing too...it's a COM interface.
It's never been added to hamlib either for just this reason.

What platforms have built in location services?Does seem the autogrid option could just be removed and leave it on all the time.  I don't see any problem with that.

I think WSJTX follows the standard practice of recording the QSO start from your original CQ call. If you want a non-standard start time you will have to adjust the start time in the pop up at the end of your QSO.
Hi Roger,

Most probably the start time is, when you send or receive the first message containing call signs of both stations. At least it is easiest to implement.

Hi Bruce,

What ALL.txt says over the longer timespan? Did e.g. the SV1... station called you at 12:08:15 or so? The end time may be correct, if you sent RR73 at 005415.

Alan, I agree with you.

The only way to prove (or disprove) Mr Godfrey's work is for there to be independent peer review with newly-gathered data correlated with other position data (ADS-B?).

Even if it does not lead to the location of the plane there may be something to learn from the exercise.

Doppler shifted aircraft reflections. The reflections are Doppler shifted by around  plus /minus 10Hz or so depending on angles
And frequency Alan?
10Hz on VHF is often seen but on 20m shift would be much less.
The "clues" of Mr Godfrey are 1Hz "Drift" at the expected time.
Has anyone any data about aircraft Doppler on 20m? It is suggested that the exhaust trail could contribute.

From examining very many Doppler signals it is clear that the detection range is at most 20Km for aircraft landing at a local airport and that VERY FEW observers ever log Aircraft Doppler signals at
I think many can observe them on VHF if they try.
But from 5 Watt HF WSPR at thousands of miles?

To think that 5W WSPR transmissions could detect distant aircraft is insane.
However there have been a few independent tests that claim to confirm the possibility that Mr Godfrey's method could work.
Mr Godfrey is careful to say conditions were good and stable.
I'm sceptical but would like it proven one way or another.
