locked Low Power Output with Elecraft K4 #Elecraft #AudioIssues #txaudio

Ed G

Hello,
Using WSJTX ver 2.5.2 with a MicroKeyer III and Elecraft K4.  When using the MKIII internal sound card, I am only seeing about 1.5 watts output with the WSJTX power slider all the way up.  When I change WSJTX audio setup to use the K4 internal sound card I see normal power out (depending of course on what I set the K4 to).  Other software programs such as JTDX, with the same exact audio setup for the MKIII sound card, that I use for WSJTX, gives me normal power out.  MMTTY with the MKIII sound card gives me normal power out.  Only WSJTX seems to give me low power out with the MKIII sound card.
So I believe I have a proven MKIII sound card (as it works with all my other software), and audio cabling system. So any ideas as to why WSJTX will not cooperate with the MKIII sound card, but yet works fine with other sound cards?  I am communicating with one other ham who is using the same gear and setup as me and is experiencing the same exact problem with WSJTX.
Something in the WSJTX rig definition file for the K4 perhaps?

Familiar with wsjt FT4 and FT8. Not used msk144 before.

Have set up as per wsjt manual. Does your beacon mode require any specific set ups. Regards. Peter g8afn

Listening here in Canada from Quebec city FN46 with 4 element beam pointing to UK IO90

All HF bands are dead anyway and will be noisy anyway with major storm to begin around 22h00 UTC with 5cm of snow and 5mm of ice rain on top of that. For the next 36 hours.

Yes folks... this is winter arriving here in the Great White North !

Sounds like the classic issue of RFI.   Most likely caused by Common Mode Current.   In most cases, grounding or earthing won't correct the issue.  On the other hand, bonding all chassis together is the correct way for starters.

Be advised that antenna type, feed system, and feedline orientation with regard to the antenna will contribute to resolution or mitigation.

See the work of W8JI, or DJ0IP, or K9YC for valid information to understanding the issue and why it exists.  And they publish good data as to what to do in order to resolve the issue.

I find that if you are on his frequency or overlapping his, it will disable your TX.   this was built in, i believe to prevent qrm.   does it do it if you hold frequency, then tx elsewhere?

Its not a JTAlert issue. I am seeing the same thing. It does not do this
all the time but it is frustrating. Using 2.5.1.
I push the TX Enable and it fires off OK. Unless I get another RR73 that
goes to a different station, then it shuts off again. The Log QSO window
doesn't pop up either.
Its happens very erratically. No rhyme or reason to it at all.

Thanks Allan! Glad it's not just me! Laurie already posted that it's not a JTAlert problem. Wish someone from the WSJT programming crowd actually looked at this group!

Double check your path to the log file.
Look at the path in Log4OM and ensure that's the path in JTAlert too.

If it logged and you got the message than JTAlert is not pointing to the correct log file to confirm.
It it didn't log then you don't have Log4OM set up to receive the JTAlert ADIF record.

Hi,

I have the IC-705, It will almost certainly be RFI.

I was lucky, I had a well screen cable from other experiences with RFI

I used a screened double ferrite cable from a Digital Camera.

On Amazon:  Screened Cable with Ferrites

In use most days for hours, No issues
