Thanks Reino.  I should have been able to figure that out, but somehow I didn't.  Maybe old age is taking a toll on me!

Hi John,

The vertical axis is audio frequency. Basically it is waterfall as in FT8, but turned 90 degrees. What you see is a carrier frequency you are receiving. If you change frequency to an FT8 frequency you should see multiple horizontal lines. on a busy band.

Hi Thomas,

the file is not hidden. If you use "Menu->File->Open log directory" you will see the file there. Windows may be hiding the file extension, which can be very confusing. If file extensions are hidden then there will be another column in the directory listing showing the file type, that should show ADI, if it shows as TXT then you have probably saved the file in Notepad.exe or similar which has renamed the file as wsjtx_log.adi.txt , if so you need to get rid of the ".txt" on the end.

I am puzzled by the waterfall display in MSK144.  A line is displayed that seemingly indicates a signal of constant amplitude.  When conditions are quiet I can hear an audio beat note that changes as my receiver frequency is slowly changed.

What puzzles me is that as I vary the frequency of the receiver the line displayed by the waterfall moves up and down.  If the horizontal axis of the display is time and the vertical axis is signal amplitude, the indication is that the audio response of my receiver is not at all flat.  However, the receiver response is set to be over 3 KHz and the audio amplitude from the speaker sounds pretty flat.

If everything works with WSJT-X directly, then perhaps you should take your issue up with OmniRig support [if any such support exists]?

The FT897 is set in the VFO mode.
I tried to understand the responce on the spilt / non- split mode and found out that when I select the SPL mode in the FT897 I got the correct behaviour for WSJT. This even when I set the VFO-B completely outside the FT8 range (VFO-B at 7.15 MHZ at TX). It is ok when I press A=B and both VFO's are at the same freq. but I still have to select SPL otherwise WSJT shows "ooB" and 0,000 in red on the freq. display.

Tried a factory reset of the FT897 but still the same results, Works fine in SPL but ooB when in VFO-A mode...
btw, I don't have this issue when driving the FT897 directly without OmniRig,

The problem may also be that they saw the RR73 and moved on. I've done so why wouldn't they once in a while in their own rushed world?

The point is it happens.

When working stations calling CQ I work them on their frequency and then move on to the next station calling CQ on their frequency.  I never take over a frequency.   When I call CQ I try to pick a frequency not being used or one where I see no decodes.  Therefore I working only those stations calling CQ and not calling CQ myself.

Seems that many ops have different operating schemes, some good, some not so good.  With me not being a contest operator, nor a DX chaser, I'm rarely into the fray of battle on the bands, unlike many others.

I choose to use decode CQ ONLY and just work those on their frequency.  I see no harm in doing this and consider it to be a good neighbor policy as to band usage.

Be critical of my operating as you wish.  But as the song goes "that's my story and I'm sticking to it"

I have a TS870 with WSJT-X with no problems operating for over 2 years. Well working the recent dxpeditions over the last few days i have on occasion used fox /hound mode. This has always been returned to normal mode operating when a station has been worked.
Today I switched on the radio to continue working stations and noticed the stations being received and decoded were very close together on the frequency graph ranging from approx 0Khz -1500Khz only. I have checked that all the settings normally used are correct. with the software and radio. I only use the radio for operating with WSJT-X only and not adjusted any of the controls since setting up 2 years ago. It would only  have been done  inadvertently. I think the problem is related to the radio settings as I have used MSHV to see if the same problem exists on that software, and it does.
I have been advised that my frequency could be off a bit. I think this is okay because the frequencies i am using are set in WSJT-X so all I need to do is click on the chosen frequency which then tunes the radio to that frequency where I am able to decode the stations with no problem..
Filter Bandwidth is set to off which is the default setting for digital operation.
Any help to solve this problem would be appreciated. Just had to happen for my last day to work the dxepeditions.
Many thanks.

do you have the 991a audio drivers installed?. I may have missed that answer.   You  should be selecting the audio codec, and I think someone mentioned, give permission to allow wsjt to use the microphone

make sure you had restarted the PC before trying to restart the wsjt/jtalert, or whatever you are trying to use.

Absolutely no effect whatsoever.  Continual sound input error dialogs. The Microphone privacy switch is not an issue as I posted earlier.

So, I set up an elderly Toshiba Satellite running Windows 7, hooked it up with the same cable same driver, same software, same place in the shack, and it's been running for 7 hours w/o a hitch.

The computer is a brand-new Asus VivoBook 17 K712EA, and I never dreamed that I would have any issues with it. I've got a limited amount of time to return it.  I'd really appreciate feedback.

Trying to set up WSJT-X in combination with Omni-Rig. RX works as expected and the FT-897 is responding correctly. But at TX, the freq. display turns red and showing 0,0000. It is just the diplay because I can still make QSO's and the FT-897 stays at the same frequenty as for RX. I did not make any changes in the Frequency list.
I don't have this issue when setting up the radio without Omni-Rig.

Any suggestions?
