Sounds like RFI, does it happen if you reduce power to (near) zero or use a dummy load?

I have very good luck calling CQ below 500 Hz and above 2500 Hz when bands, especially 20m and 40m, are congested.  About half of those calling me are in the central  part of the band and operating split.

It seems they can hear out to the ends of the bands but not don't transmit there for whatever reason.

The interesting graph below looks correct to me.

Hi Gene,

Just a snapshot here in Finland 24 h on 20m band almost 150 000 messages.

High end is limited by my rig and wsjt-x waterfall setting. I would say quite a flat distribution.

73, Reino OH3mA

1)  A lot of DX stations seem to prefer below 1KHz.  Also Fox/Hound mode (also usually DX) requires them to stay below 1KHz.  So some people try and keep that free for the DX stations.
2) As mentioned a lot of radios don't work well close to the band edges.  If you stay away from the edges you don't have to worry about that.  Your radio may work close to the edge but by doing so you are cutting out a lot of contacts from people who's radio doesn't work well there.
3) If you are trying to work a DX station it helps to lower the base frequency by 300-500Hz. This now means that the top end of the FT8 band is no longer available.

All of these combine to make it more likely that there will be fewer stations on the high and low ends.

Nothing wrong with your choice and I can see where it will help you make contacts by lowering the competition.  I can't imagine any rational person complaining about a QRP station operating there.  1500 Watts?  That's a little different.  Of course this is ham radio.  An assumption of rationality may be a bit naive.

Hi Paul,

Haven't heard your sigs lately.
My 137 antenna is really lousy but I get into the States regularly on 476.

I have redone the whole setup and have three completely separate instances - before, one of them didn't have the rig-name parameter but the other 2 did. I have also created separate directories and point the "start in" window to these directories.

I have tested it with a small Arduino test TX I have and it is now seems to be working, but the decodes go on for a LONG time, they finish just before the new 2-minute period starts.

I am wondering, what sort of machine are you running the 12 instances on? and how much memory does it have?

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Check to be certain every instance specifies a unique rig-name
parameter. The behavior you report with the decode light staying on will
happen if any instance does not have a unique rig-name specified. I have
made that mistake more times than I care to admit.

I have run as many as 12 instances for receiving on 137 and 475 kHz.

John,

you can't be "losing control of the app", that makes no sense. The SignaLink USB handles PTT, all you need do is ensure the Tx audio level  is high enough to trigger the SignaLink USB internal VOX circuit.

Hi Mark,

ah OK, yes I forgot about that. You can't build libgcc7, which is a dependency for virtually all of the gcc version builds, on Big Sur. That means that it is not possible to build WSJT-X on Big Sur until we get the refactoring done that works around the issues with newer gfortran versions.

Official WSJT-X builds for macOS are built on Mojave.

I am trying to run frequency calibration.  Before starting there was no fmt.all file in the WSJT-X log directory.  Running frequency calibration seemed to work, but some frequencies had insufficient signal.

I had trouble stopping the scan until I switched modes.  Then I examined the log directory and there was still no fmt.all file.

I need to edit that file, but I can't find it.

I'm using a Raspberry Pi-4b.

Any suggestions to get me on the right track are welcome.

Issue more likely to be the Windows audio settings. W7 and 10 often mix up the sudio streams after updates.

Try this..adjust com port and baud to suit...

If and of those commands give an error then do this

I'm trying to set up my Pi4 with WSJT-X  with my Yaesu FT-DX10.  I could never get the Pi4 to work with WSJT-X, and I'm getting the following HAMLIB error message:

"HAMLIB error Communication timed out
newcat.c(1528): newcat.get_vfo return(-5)e
ng_vfo:returning -5 (Communication timed out)
newcat.c(9692) newcat_get_vfo return (-5)
newcat.c(1528) newcat_get_vfo return (-5)
return(-5)ng.c(2695)ng_get_vfo return(-5) while testing getting current VFO"

I don't understand what the error message is alluding to. Can anyone advise what settings I should check in the FT-DX10, or within WSJT-X, that might remedy the problem?  The Pi4 is set up using Build-A-Pi from Jason, KM4ACK, and all updates and patches have been completed. The radio is connected via USB, and I've selected the automatic settings within the FT-DX10 for FT8, seems to be the correct settings when I check them individually within radio. My intuition says that the radio isn't connected to the Pi4, but of course, the data cable is physically connected. I also have FLRIG installed on the Pi4, but it doesn't seem to be properly controlling the radio. I prefer to have WSJT-X control the radio, but of course, I'm getting the HAMLIB error message.  I believe I've setup the settings within WSJT-X properly.

I have WSJT-X installed on a Windows 10 machine, and it's currently working fine, no error messages.  I am currently using a Yaesu FT-991A on the Windows 10 machine, and running FT8 flawlessly.  So, it isn't like I'm a total novice with respect to setting WSJT-X up to work properly. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated as I would really like to also have WSJT-X working on my Pi4 so I can use it via my FT-DX10.

I posted an enquiry about getting back onto WSJT-x after mire than a year qrt. I was told no need to uninstall or anything else...just install newest version.

Well, my working version is v2.2.0 6a6ce4.
When I installed the latest general release version I get no decodes band activity window remains empi and the 0-85 dB scale (bottom left) is empty. I have ft8 mode chosen and the rig settings are the same.

Not being able to solve the problem I chose a restore point on my Windows 7 pro back to how it was on 20.09.2021 ( most recent restore piint(.

Can anyone help please?

With W10, my 4 Gb laptop suddenly crawled to halt (probably after an update). I noticed memory usage had peaked at 85% and the disk was getting hammered, so obviously it had started swapping furiously. I added another 4 Gb and it’s is now usually OK. Only if windows updates itself the subsequent disk traffic caused stuff to go slowly. For 10 minutes or so after starting the machine.

4G is a good amount of memory for W7.  For W10, its barely enough.  I have 16g Win10 machines.  One of them may have 32G.  I’ve never tried more than one instance of WSJTx though.  I usually have Outlook, Excel, Word, Chrome and three instances of Putty open while WSJTX decodes.

Hi Bill,

Both of them have 4Gb. One is Win7 the other Win10.

I did another test today with 3 instances on the Win10 machine and the processor utilization never went over 60%, but it still stopped decoding.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi Peter,

how much physical memory does your PC have?
