Oh, absolutely, while Win10 has it's issues, Win7 support ended Jan 14, 2020, so it's no longer an OS our business supports.

WSJT-X STOPS TRANSMITTING
#transmit
#FlexRadio
Hello Everyone,
I have had the FLEX 6400 and 6300 for years and this is the first time I am having this problem after making thousands of contacts. It just started recently...When transmitting, I will hear the USB disconnection sound in the computer. The radio continues to transmit but on the next "over" the radio will switch into TX but there will be no RF transmitted. I tried the USB solution and expanded all of the Universal Serial Bus controllers to make sure Power Management was not turning them off to save energy. I also changed my Power Settings in Hardware and Sound which was another solution I found in this forum. All to no avail. I restart WSJT and it will work for one transmit and then go dead. All the time, I am hearing the USB disconnection sound in the computer when this happened. As stated by others, it seems that there is a virtual USB port being used here with the software. Of course, the FLEX radio is connected directly via ethernet cable to the computer. This is not a network connection. I would rather avoid swiping the drive and starting from scratch but I have been there and done that before. Does anyone have any suggestions? 73 Mark KK2l

I have very good luck calling CQ below 500 Hz and above 2500 Hz when bands, especially 20m and 40m, are congested. About half of those calling me are in the central part of the band and operating split.
It seems they can hear out to the ends of the bands but not don't transmit there for whatever reason.
The interesting graph below looks correct to me.

Just a snapshot here in Finland 24 h on 20m band almost 150 000 messages.
High end is limited by my rig and wsjt-x waterfall setting. I would say quite a flat distribution.

1) A lot of DX stations seem to prefer below 1KHz. Also Fox/Hound mode (also usually DX) requires them to stay below 1KHz. So some people try and keep that free for the DX stations.
2) As mentioned a lot of radios don't work well close to the band edges. If you stay away from the edges you don't have to worry about that. Your radio may work close to the edge but by doing so you are cutting out a lot of contacts from people who's radio doesn't work well there. 3) If you are trying to work a DX station it helps to lower the base frequency by 300-500Hz. This now means that the top end of the FT8 band is no longer available. All of these combine to make it more likely that there will be fewer stations on the high and low ends. Nothing wrong with your choice and I can see where it will help you make contacts by lowering the competition. I can't imagine any rational person complaining about a QRP station operating there. 1500 Watts? That's a little different. Of course this is ham radio. An assumption of rationality may be a bit naive.

Re: Multiple instances of WSJT-X on Windows machine.
#WSJTX_config
#Windows07
Hi Paul,
Haven't heard your sigs lately.
My 137 antenna is really lousy but I get into the States regularly on 476.
I have redone the whole setup and have three completely separate instances - before, one of them didn't have the rig-name parameter but the other 2 did. I have also created separate directories and point the "start in" window to these directories.
I have tested it with a small Arduino test TX I have and it is now seems to be working, but the decodes go on for a LONG time, they finish just before the new 2-minute period starts.
I am wondering, what sort of machine are you running the 12 instances on? and how much memory does it have?
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter, Check to be certain every instance specifies a unique rig-name parameter. The behavior you report with the decode light staying on will happen if any instance does not have a unique rig-name specified. I have made that mistake more times than I care to admit. I have run as many as 12 instances for receiving on 137 and 475 kHz. 73, Paul N1BUG

you can't be "losing control of the app", that makes no sense. The SignaLink USB handles PTT, all you need do is ensure the Tx audio level is high enough to trigger the SignaLink USB internal VOX circuit.

I am trying to run frequency calibration. Before starting there was no fmt.all file in the WSJT-X log directory. Running frequency calibration seemed to work, but some frequencies had insufficient signal.
I had trouble stopping the scan until I switched modes. Then I examined the log directory and there was still no fmt.all file. I need to edit that file, but I can't find it. I'm using a Raspberry Pi-4b. Any suggestions to get me on the right track are welcome. John, W0GN
