Timing out means problems talking to the com port. Try this..adjust com port and baud to suit... rigctl-wsjtx -m 1042 -r /dev/xxxxx -s 9600 f m v If and of those commands give an error then do this rigctl-wsjtx -m 1042 -r /dev/xxxxx -vvvvv -Z f m v >log.txt 2>&1 And send me the log.txt file. I posted an enquiry about getting back onto WSJT-x after mire than a year qrt. I was told no need to uninstall or anything else...just install newest version.
Well, my working version is v2.2.0 6a6ce4. When I installed the latest general release version I get no decodes band activity window remains empi and the 0-85 dB scale (bottom left) is empty. I have ft8 mode chosen and the rig settings are the same. Not being able to solve the problem I chose a restore point on my Windows 7 pro back to how it was on 20.09.2021 ( most recent restore piint(. Can anyone help please? 73 Pete T Oh2euu

With W10, my 4 Gb laptop suddenly crawled to halt (probably after an update). I noticed memory usage had peaked at 85% and the disk was getting hammered, so obviously it had started swapping furiously. I added another 4 Gb and it’s is now usually OK. Only if windows updates itself the subsequent disk traffic caused stuff to go slowly. For 10 minutes or so after starting the machine.

4G is a good amount of memory for W7. For W10, its barely enough. I have 16g Win10 machines. One of them may have 32G. I’ve never tried more than one instance of WSJTx though. I usually have Outlook, Excel, Word, Chrome and three instances of Putty open while WSJTX decodes.

Rather new to WSJT. Running a Mac M1 Mini and an Icom 7610.
When I call a station and it seems as if I'm in that 2 second window, the TX indicator on WSJT indicates a transmission.....but in fact it does not key the transmitter......however, if I hit the Manual TX button on the radio it will go into send mode and send the proper info and automatically release the PTT....it then resumes the auto sequencing......Im not understanding why this is the case......then the last sequence of " K3GT 73" will not TX unless I hit the manual button on the radio. When I call CQ, the sequencing is fine BTW. Is it just the way the program works? Thanks Bob K3GT

Hi everyone,
I am trying to run multiple instances of WSJT-X to decode very weak signals on 137Khz. I have been running 2 instances (one WSPR and one FST4W-30) on a Windows 7 laptop OK, but when I add a third instance with FST4W-2, the decodes stop working and the decode light stays on permanently. I have then tried the 3 instances on a Thinkpad, running Win10, and it works for a while but then only decodes intermittently. I am using it to receive only. I am running v2.4.0. Does anyone have any tips on how to get multiple instances running reliably, or how to reduce processor load when running multiple instances? Cheers, Peter - VK2AN

Hi Gene,
Just a snapshot here in Finland 24 h on 20m band almost 150 000 messages.
High end is limited by my rig and wsjt-x waterfall setting. I would say quite a flat distribution.

1) A lot of DX stations seem to prefer below 1KHz. Also Fox/Hound mode (also usually DX) requires them to stay below 1KHz. So some people try and keep that free for the DX stations.

1) A lot of DX stations seem to prefer below 1KHz. Also Fox/Hound mode (also usually DX) requires them to stay below 1KHz. So some people try and keep that free for the DX stations.
2) As mentioned a lot of radios don't work well close to the band edges. If you stay away from the edges you don't have to worry about that. Your radio may work close to the edge but by doing so you are cutting out a lot of contacts from people who's radio doesn't work well there. 3) If you are trying to work a DX station it helps to lower the base frequency by 300-500Hz. This now means that the top end of the FT8 band is no longer available. All of these combine to make it more likely that there will be fewer stations on the high and low ends. Nothing wrong with your choice and I can see where it will help you make contacts by lowering the competition. I can't imagine any rational person complaining about a QRP station operating there. 1500 Watts? That's a little different. Of course this is ham radio. An assumption of rationality may be a bit naive. Gene NG1H

I'm guessing you are probably using Data/Pkt mode in WSJT-X. Many rigs have limited bandwidth. Some can adjust that bandwidth. What rig do you have? What are your bandwidth settings? Mike W9MDB Hi Marty, one reason may be that users who do not have CAT control of their rigs are following our advice to use Tx audio offsets above 1500 Hz. This ensures that any unwanted audio harmonics are greatly attenuated by the rig's Tx IF filter. Of course they can elect to tune their VFO dial down 1 or 1.5 kHz if they wish to get to those lower frequencies. 73 Bill G4WJS.

Like the other station, all versions of WSJT-X work directly with my TS-590SG for CAT control, both on Windows 10 and Ubuntu LINUX using the USB cable. I do not use flrig.

Simples, you are transmitting an audio tome on an SSB transmitter, the

bandwidth of the SSB transmitter is roughly 300Hz to 3Khz, anything outside that will not be transmitted or severely attenuated. Your receiver has an audio response to fit with the SSB TX response.. OK ?

Hi -
I have been using FT8 for 4 months on 40 & 20 meters and notice that signals bunch between 1 kHz and 2 to 2.5 kHz. Can someone explain to me (or point me at some good write-ups) as to why this happens? Is there some magic going on that I am missing, or is it just herd instinct? I generally try to use 800-950 Hz, and get reasonable results with a QRP rig and compromise antenna. Thanks in advance, 73. Marty KN6OKN
