If your antenna system gets worse from loose or wet or corroded connections, you might have more RFI in your shack than you had last week.

Colin, I had the same problem after upgrading WSJT-X to 2.4 with my FT817. Unexpectedly I resolved using 38.400 as baud rate instead of 9.600 for CAT, and now I'm using 2.5 beta. I think there is some time-out problem somewhere.

Thanks everyone. This is sort of what I expected. I'll look into the other software mentioned. I guess I have to start actively monitoring the DX expeditions and get serious about it.

I use DX Monitor, which offers a lot of convenient sifting and sorting features.  It's shareware with a nominal one time fee. Well worth it, IMO.

Spots  from RBN and PSKReporter are always helpful, too, but they may not report on unusual operating frequencies.

Not really, although there are some that are frequently used, but to eliminate QRM, most DXPeditions will list on a webpage what frequencies they will be using.

It looks like the TNX 2BND 73 message has been coded into a standard <CALL> <CALL> 73 format. WSJT-X is not going to know that it’s not a real call.

I don’t know if there’s a way for WSJT-X to be told not to.  It’s only 11 characters so there could be a way for the sender add one or two characters – say “TNX 2BND 73SK”

do not use the system default audio devices for transmitter Tx audio
Well I did try selecting the actual device as well but the effect is the same. Default output works fine. It's gotta be an bug on WSJT-X's end because it works fine on the windows version.

WSJTX has "default" set for both input and output audio. The current devices are set as default and selected in the OS. Playing audio from any other program works as expected. Audio goes in, shows on the waterfall, and decodes fine. Wsjtx just isn't putting out any sound! No sources pop up in pavucontrol when it's in transmit mode either.

Running 'padsp wsjtx' will make the first transmission have audio, but on the next cycle there's no sound again.

Does the wsjtx soundcard output descriptor match that expected and shown with aplay -l   ?

CAT is connected and appeares to be working. I can hear it controling the G90. The problem is ALL of my volume controls are completely different than what is shown in that post. I have no Idea what I am doing at this point. I miss Windows XP. I have windows 10 Pro and can not find any of the settings you mention.

Neither the TS2000 nor PowerSDR requires 2 stop bits.

I haven't found a rig yet that doesn't work using all the Default settings.  That's why I added the Default capability to WSJTX to avoid all these "what settings do I use" questions on those items.

No problems here using Ubuntu 18.04 and wsjt-x-2.4.0. But I do not use pulseaudio.

Have you tried setting the TX sound card level in alsamixer? If the level is set to 0 not sure what pulseaudio will make of it.

Folks,

Attached is a .pdf file with 4 sources for FT-891 settings. Thank you for your input.

At this point, I still have not been able to make WSJT-X run on the Pi.....so I am concluding this posting....and giving up on the Pi.

I don't believe that the problem lies just in the FT-891 settings. I was able to get a UBUNTU Laptop running nicely using the settings in the last column  in the attached pdf. The Pi problem probably has more to do with Sound Setting in the Raspberry OS or something else that I can't figure out. I tried pavucontrol (Pulse Audio) but had problems (When transmitting the monitor would shut off, no picture).

Again, Thanks to all of you. Good luck with WSJT-X
