Well it looks like I am transmitting CQ but there is no band activity showing.  I’m on 7074.0 Digital with power 5 watts and antenna at 1.0 SWR.

Should I be receiving something or is it just slow on the band. I’m in Queens, NY.

Thanks again for your help.

Mark,

if you are getting a rig control error then you must have selected a rig in the WSJT-X preferences. For that to work you must have some connection between your rig and Mac, but you don't tell us anything about that, or indeed what rig you have. Also please include the full text of any rig control message, including the details, with any issue report about rig control?

I Will try........ to delete my internal sound card.
However I plugged in a spare USB module and got same error.
Even further .......... I purchased a new USB sound device.... and cables.... got same error.
Remember.......  I set RIG to NONE and the decode of sample files works.

It is only when I click MONITOR button that I get the error.

My first indication of trouble.......
ALL OF A SUDDEN one day the green level bar showed no signal.
I've been using wsjt-x for years with same hardware.

Hi Dick,

it would seem that HDSDR does not support the modulation mode WSJT-X is trying to set, try the other "Settings->Radio->Mode" option, or if that doesn't work try "Settings->Radio->Mode->None".

Are you operating in Split mode?  Is VFOB not changing on band change?

If so, try Fake It

  • Apparently, when opening and closing of WSJT-X the software sends a band change signal to the radio which is instantly sent further to the PA, which responds instantly, whilst at ordinary band changes made in WSJT-X, such a signal is sent to the radio, but it never reaches the PA.
  • Changing the band directly on the radio makes the PA change to the corresponding band.
We are left with only one situation where the PA does not respond to band changes made in the radio: When a band change is made in WSJT-X, and it never was a problem until we changed from WSJT-X 2.3.1 to WSJT-X 2.4.0.

You could try using WSJT-X 2.5.0rc5 and check for the same problem, alternatively wait a couple of weeks until hamlib-4.3 is released and then the next WSJT-X version should have the updated hamlib with the needed fixes.

I think your feedback on the rc version would be appreciated.

I see this from time to time - I haven’t worked out what is causing it, so it is just random as far as I can tell. Sometimes halting the TX and then enabling it works, but sometimes I have to close down WSJT-X and reopen it. If you open Soinds in Win10 then you will see that the output is going to another codec.

The odd thing is that the Tune button always works…

I would make LCUT as low as possible (100Hz).  I assume HCUT of 3000 shows a decent bandpass curve?

You can see your bandpass by turning off "Flatten" and going to a quiet spot (like 4kHz down).

Set "Start 0Hz" and widen your waterfall so you can see the right-hand side of your bandpass.

You then adjust the waterfall to be inside the bandpass just a bit as Flatten does not like to see the edges of the bandpass.
You can see the effect here at 13:51:45 to 13:52:30 where I adjusted the bandpass to be narrower than the waterfall and you get the lower and upper "noise" from the Flatten algorithm.
Inline image

Turning Flatten off and seeing Start 0Hz you see your bandwidth something like this.   So you then adjust Start to get into the bandpass and the Bins/Pixel and window width to get the right side into your bandpass.

I use an ICOM 7300 - have had the same problem with CODEC Speaker audio being re-routed to almost anything that Windows has for Speaker Audio! While using Win8.1-  once that happened I had no way of 'fixing' it.  I had set up my Bluetooth hearing aids - the CODEC Speaker audio went there!  (With the ensuing very loud audio meant to drive the TX!)

Now with Win10 - and Bluetooth working with the aids - when it happens I can "disconnect' the aids and all is well.  I don't need the hearing aids for WSJT-x and other digital modes - so just need to be sure the aids have not taken over the CODEC Speaker audio.

I've read somewhere that the CODEC audio should never be set as 'Default.'  Have not confirmed that - but it is what happened with Win8.1 - and I could not change it.

Guess I should check for updates more often.  I avoid the "Beta" releases, but I generally install any "release" version of digital programs

It's always worth looking at the release notes for each version, even if it is a beta/rc release. There are often bug fixes for things that are broken in the released version if the developers see it as important enough. You can find the release notes linked from the WSJT-X main page.
