FTDX-10 Big Sur

I'm curious of anyone has been able to implement total CAT control for WSJT-X on Mac Big Sur and would be willing to share their settings. I've got the Silicon Labs driver installed and can connect the Mac to the radio and get the green CAT indication. I can receive no problem but cannot key the radio on transmit. I've used all the FTDX10 presets for FT8 and matched the CAT rate in WSJT-X. Audio Midi on the Mac is set to the maximum for output. If I set the rig to none in WSJT-X and use my trusty Signal-link, I can transmit and receive no problem. I've ferrited every cable attached to the radio so i don't believe its an RFI issue. I've googled this topic and can't seem to find anything definitive on this issue. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you are using the wrong COM port. The standard COM port controls PTT and with hardware flow control you will get the PTT asserted. You want the Enhanced port for CAT control. Let me know if the FTDX10 behaves OK with WSJTX so I can promote it from Alpha status. Mike W9MDB

Connection between PC and DX10 is via USB over Serial Port /dev/ttyUSB1 at 38400 rate, data 8, stop 2, handshake none, PTT CAT, Mode USB, Split RIG. If I try now to tell WSJTX that the rig settings are "OK" after a Rig Control error, it immediately tries to reset the CAT connection and will go back to above "TEST CAT" behavior. I would appreciate any comments. Thanks, Joe, N0NOW

Chris,
Are you using the latest version of WSJT-X? I had problems with 2.4.0 with my Kenwood (TS-140S) after the upgrade but the current version works fine. 73 - Chip KD4C

Hi Alan,
In your case, may be the KISS solution is to buy another PC for video use?
I assume that most hams are using just one WSJT-X program at a time.

What works for me, when I want to watch a video, or participate in an on-line meeting, using my Windows-10 PC, I turn completely off the WSJT-X (clicking the «X» in the upper right corner) and unplug the USB connection to the radio system.Tom, Yes, simple. But doing one thing at a time reminds me of DOS days:-) I often have 6 or more instances of WSJT-X going along with browsing and all the other things. 73 Alan G4ZFQ

What works for me, when I want to watch a video, or participate in an on-line meeting, using my Windows-10 PC, I turn completely off the WSJT-X (clicking the «X» in the upper right corner) and unplug the USB connection to the radio system.
I then right-click on the loudspeaker symbol at the right part of the PC screen’s bottom task bar, and click the open sound settings on the new little menu appearing. I can then adjust sounds in and out of the PC for the video or the video meeting.
When going back to WSJT-X, I plug the USB connector from the radio system, I start WSJT-X, and I right click again the loudspeaker symbol at the task bar, and adjust the sound input and output levels in Windows-10 back to the sound level settings I use for WSJT-X. Then the WSJT-X is «automagically back in business».
This works every time for my Windows-10 PC – and without a need to set any other parameters in the PC.

Thank you for the quick response and tip on dealing with the inane behavior of the OS. Guess the solution will be like that for a network analyzer which uses USB for the computer as a display. Use a dedicated pc. Regards Chuck WD4HXG

Is there a method to specify that the programs use a specific audio input andChuck, There is in "Settings" "App Volume Device Preferences" but it only seems half effective. Make your on-board sound device default. Nothing else should be made default. You may have to check this any time you insert a USB audio device. An important thing is to turn off any power saving on any audio device including those incorporated in a monitor. Turn the screen on/off manually. Keep any audio cables permanently connected where plug sensing is used. Then any USB audio device should also be permanently connected, might be difficult when the device is in a rig. Unfortunately it is not often a set and forget operation. I have a check sheet for when things go wrong. 73 Alan G4ZFQ

what happens if ptt in wsjt is changed to ptt via cat, so it would use com7, if I understand, to key the rig, not com5 sounds like rigblaster may be designed to work with vox, as well Dave Garber VE3WEJ / VE3IE

This is a classic example of “When all else fails, read the instructions”. Although I had read the tips, I managed to overlook the one that perfectly described my problem and how to correct it. Changing the sample rate from the recommended 48000, to 44100 resolved my issue completely. I am happy to report that just a few minutes ago I completed my very first digital mode contact on FT8.

If you are interested in a challenge... you could look voor the Hermes Lite 2.
It's an SDR trx with 5W output. Currently a batch is in production for delivery end aug. https://www.makerfabs.com/hermes-lite-2.html ICW eg Raspberry Pi there is plenty to experience for your programming skills. (SW for Windows/MAC OS also available) The unit can be remotely controlled via internet/lan and has the possibility to execute several receiver instancances simultaneously. An ATU is optional at low cost. http://www.hermeslite.com/ Jan/pa3abk

Hello, I originally (many years ago) set up wsjtx to key my radio using the 1kHz tone on the right audio channel of my laptop. I made my own interface that then keys the radio using this tone. I started making a new interface box for my IC-9700 and I discovered that wsjtx is not outputting a 1kHz tone on the right channel any more, but it's a duplicate of the TX audio being sent out the left channel. I can't find the setting in wsjtx to output 1kHz on soundcard right channel anymore. It still works fine this way, but has wsjtx changed or is this another instance of Windows messing up my settings and I'm missing the setting? 73! Mike
